this is a very basic gml file to be used with girder to remotely control mp. you'll need girder setup properly for this file to be useful, so first make sure that girder works with your remote control.

one last thing: keep the mouse cursor away from mp window!

I can't figure out how to use the arrow keys on my remote to scroll instead of control the mouse cursor. Basically I'd like to have MP set up with Girder so that I use my arrow keys to scroll through the menus. I can set up the arrows to act as the mouse and that works fine, but only on the main menu.

I tried this Girder-Configuration but it doesn't work on my MP: Pressing the IR-Keys doesn't have an effect in the mp application.

I'm using a Hauppauge IR (WinTV PVR USB2) having installed the special plugin for girder. The IR itself is working together with girder: Key pressed are displayed in girder application correctly.

Is there something else I have to do?

I had to retarget all the commands to media portal.
The old target was media portal
The new target is media portal - [v0.0.0.13]
Which if they keep changing the name is going to end up being a real pain.

The Hauppauge IR is well supported by mediaportal by using a extendet irremote.ini file. you can find it in tips & tricks or the wickipages ready for download. Unless you want to use girder for some other reason.
