Hi all,

I have just moved to mediaportal from Vista MC and i am having problems with video playback stuttering randomly. This occurs for MKV's, MPEG 2 and VOB files. I have installed SAF 5.0 and am using the ffdshow codecs as advised, however that hasn't cured the problem.

I am now wondering whether my graphics card is up to scratch? currently ATI Radeon 3200HD through HDMI on motherboard.

Please can someone offer me some advice before i go out and spend £70-100 on a new card i don't really need!

Thanks
David

If you have SAF5 installed, try to play your video in Graphstudio to eliminate Player problem - START-SAF-tool-Graphstudio - open and play your video here.

If your video will play fine in Graphstudio, problem is in player.

What type of stuttering is it? What is the CPU usage like at the time?

Stuttering Playback - MediaPortal Wiki

Thanks for the link.

Looking at your link i have got tearing on mpeg2 but not mkv. This occurs roughly 2 thirds of the way up the screen. The stuttering is kind of hard to describe, it's like there is a blockage - not all data is getting through, then it clears and runs ok for x amount of time could be a minute could be an hour. Also i have noticed that when the camera is panning this is not smooth at all?

When i used VMC i never tried and MKV (one of the reasons for moving) but mpeg ran fine

How do i check CPU usage from inside Media Portal?

Thanks

David

Have you matched the refresh rate to the frame rate of the source material?

MKV is just a container like a ZIP file. It could be any type of video.

How do i check CPU usage from inside Media Portal?
Open up task manager and then open MP.

Make sure you enabled vsync (always on) in your ATI GPU CCC.

Video plays exactly the same stuttering in graphstudio. I couldn't find vsync in ccc looked in every menu in advanced mode?

Open up task manager and then open MP.

I have dynamic refresh rate switched on
CPU is running at around 40% when video is playing fine, then when stuttering starts it drops to between 5 and 20%

    Cheers
