Hi there

I got a VIA Epia Board with a C7-Processor and a CN700 Chipset (Details see below) in front of me. I know about the problems between the S3-Graphiccard embedded in the chipset has with VRM9 and it seems that (like remarked at the ent of the linked thread) the newest drivers from the via-arena are fixing these problems -- i am able to watch videos out of mediaportal. Unfortunateley there seems to be some problems with choosing the right colorspace. I'm using the newest ffdshow-codec but i also tried the newest xvid-codec, the results are always the same: i see a green washy version of the video, sometimes headfirst, much like in the picture attached to this post.
Just like described in this thread, changing the output-colorspace in ffdshow has no impact on the video's colors, even if i only allow RGB.
What I found out and what seems very interesting to me is, that when i play another video with VLC in overlay-mode, the colors of the video in mediaportal are correct too, even if i close VLC afterwards. It seems that when starting the playback in mediaportal, an overlay-video must be playing.

So it is definitly possible to play the video correctly, it seems just to be a problem with the adjustment of the colorspace between mediaportal and the graphicschip. VLC does this adjustment manual and afterwards mediaportal also works quite well. The question to me is, if this adjustment can be done programmaticly, if it's a bug or just a configuration mistake.

I'm awaiting your answers,
Best Regards,
Peter

The thread you pointed at did not have a happy ending.

The S3/VIA UniChrome Pro IGP has major DX9 limitations, which vmr9 runs on, and MP relies on.

You can enable VLC as external player with the plugin (now only seems available as part of the dreambox package) or try the mplayer plugin which is new and hopefully maintained by gemx.

Why it played in MP is that VLC forced overlay, MP is not designed now to normally run on this.

Please do not ask, overlay was dropped a long time ago when it was decided everything went .net with VMR9.

or treat yourself to a cheap ati\nvidia card which fully supports dx9.

    Hi
As I said I know about the limitations but it seems the new driver enables the missing features or at least emulates them. also keep in mind that i am able to watch a video with correct colors in mediaportal using the internal vrm9 renderer.
Maybe it becomes clearer if i describe the steps to reproduce it:
    * I open MP in window mode and begin with playback of a video
    * I see a green tint on the video
    * I stop playback
    * I open VLC or MediaPlayer or MPC in the background an let it play any videofile
    * In MP i start playback of the same video again
    * The Video shows grately inside Mediaportal, the OSD works and everything is just fine
    * I close VLC or Mediaplayer or MPC
    * The Video in MP keeps running great
    * I stop Playback in MP and start it again
    * The video is green again

This seems to me that it could be made working because under these conditions it is working.
    Best Regards,
    Peter

Yeah, that was it. I was just working on another solution: A small program that creates a 1x1 pixel Overlay-Frame in YUV mode. This switches the grafikcard into YUV-Mode and lets the videos display correctly, but it has a problem with the S3-Standby. Your solution is a bit more "durable" and somewhat cleaner. Thanks a lot!!!
