harmony remote vs TV card's IR Blaster ? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

wondering if anyone can shed some light.. trying to know how it works.

Im looking for (at) a hauppage 2250 and theres 2 different ones.. one that comes with a remote and IR Blaster (this part is from the tv card and sits in front of a STB.

the other card comes without the remote/ IR Blaster

Since I already have a Harmony 880 remote that "CAN" control my STB... Do I need TV card that comes with remote and IR unit ?

Also does the STB channel gets changed when I go into the TV guide and select the channel ? or does this sit on same channel and the TV card tunes into the channel from the TV Guide ?

this is confusing a bit to me as I read that MP scans the channel of your TV Card and I'm thinking that IR is for turning off/on the STB

any info would be greatly helpful

Hi

With the IR Server Suite plugin for tv server you can change channels on the STB from the TV Guide.

If you add a analog channel in the tv server with the channel number 123 and the video source CVBS #1 (or what ever the STB is connected to on your tv card) then the number 123 will be blasted to your STB when you select the channel from Tv Guide.

so what you saying is using my Harmony remote with IR Server suite will have MP to tell my remote to change the STB ?
or do I still need a IR Blaster to put in front of my STB ?

at the same time could you explain the point of MP scanning the TV card ? since the plugin is blasting the STB to change the channel

is it cuz MP tunes to the channel on the TV card and using the STB for allow viewing (paid subscribtions)?
