Has the SQL Express Instance name always be SQLExpress? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I just installed the TV Server on one PC. I named the instance SQL 2005 TVServer and opened it on port 1594. The local MP works fine with it. The connection from another PC with SQL Management Studio worked with 123.123.123.123\TVServer,1594 . But with the setting in the Media Portal MYTV Plugin, nothing worked. So I guess you expect the Instance name is SQLExpress. Am I correct?

Second qusetion: if the IP adress is once set, can I ever change it again from within MP?

Thanks, Rainer

when you started the TV-Server the first time, have you changed hostname/SQLExpress to hostname/[whateveryouwanttouse] and the clicked test?

have you enabled the remote connections too?

Yes, but at the moment only by editing the MediaPortal.xml

Yes, and on the local machine it worked fine. I can watch TV there with no problems.

have you enabled the remote connections too?

Yes, and also opened the port in the firewall. That is why I can acces the SQL Instance from the remote PC with SQL Management Studio without problems. The question is, what do I have to enter at the remote PC that it can access the TV Server. I tried only the 'IP Adress', I tried 'IPAdress\Instancename' and 'IP-Adress\Instancename,Port'. None worked.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Rainer.

UPDATE: I tried turning the firewall off (on the server) and enter only the pc-name (on the client). After that I got the message connected to TVServer. But I still have no EPG, TV, Groups or channels. So I have some more questions: does the client connect to the SQL Server and/or to the TVServer service? If to the TV Server, which port does it use?

And another question: can any client connect to the server, or can you set credentials or allowing only special IP Adresses?

for the installation. take a look @ the tutorial videos and the manual.
    because you allready made errors.

i.e. on the client, you only have to enter the IP Adress/ hostname of the TV-Server, NOT the SQL instance.

The TV-Server will "tell" the client the connection details to the SQL-db.

    Hi.

Thanks for your quick reply. As I wrote in the update part in my last posting, I already entered only the PC name. Then I got a connection, but no TV. Any ideas?

Still my last question: which ports do I need to open for the TV Server?

    Thanks, Rainer
