I moved my HP 1600 capture card to a different PCI slot.
My channels no longer mapped to a card.
Is there a way to re-map them?

Personally would now delete the MPTvDb database, because the previous hardware id will still exist and may cause issues in the future.

Uninstall and reinstalling, TVServer + plugin and choosing to not save settings would be the best way to do this.

    Suggestion Worked

I ended up in the same situation as OP ... My WinTV-HVR-1600 was getting super hot in the PCI slot right next to my ATI 9600xt AGP. The 1600 was blocking the 9600's fan exhaust (plus it was really close).

So, I removed the PCI modem and moved all the cards down a slot to leave a free slot next to the AGP slot.

All the affected cards got redetected by Windows on boot. The WinTV app. was fine but both MCE and MP had remapped the 1600. Even MCE needed to have the card and channels setup like in the beginning.

In TV Server, in some places it looked ok (with new IDs), but in other places it showed the old dual tuners also making it difficult to map the channels properly. I kept looking for the option to delete all the tuners and let them be redetected like a new install.

PD's suggection works like a charm. Here is what I did:

    - From ControlPanel, uninstalled TV Server. It will remove the old TV db from msSQL (but leave msSQL)
    - Ran MP Installer. Answered a few questions (same as before), but toward the end, instead of selecting
    one-click install, select Custom.
    - Is should say everything is "no action" except TV Server and TV Server Plugin. Install those. Start TV Service
    msSQL password is "MediaPortal".

Go into newly re-installed TV Server.
    - Group the 2 HVR-1600 tuner parts to "Hybrid 1"
    - Scan channels (on analog part) US, cable ... it will take a while
    - Click OK, exit out (save) go back in
    - Click the "Add S-VHS Channels" button. Delete all but the first one.
    - In Channels/ Tv Groups, setup a new Group called All Channels and add them all (including S-VHS)

Turn back on XMLTV Plugin. Fix path to D: . Do the mapping, save, import.

Changed Recoding and TimeShift folders back over to D: drive for both tuners. Import any missing Recordings files.

    I think that is it.

That's the problem and tearing your hair out because you get errors or very unexpected behaviour is really not worth it.

Thanks for the feedback and the small tutorial :)

    Questions:

    (1) what are you using for EPG (WebEPG grabber or Schedules Direct or something else)?
    (2) what advantage is it in assign the 2 tuners (Analogue + ATSC/ClearCAM) to a hybrid. I don't do this.
    (3) what is the VHS settings for? (is it for those 2 RCA input jacks on the 1600 card)

My MP re-install worked fine for detecting the card.
First I tried re-importing my old channels via export.xml - did not work.
I decided to do a re-scan as it has the upside of detecting any new channels (i use ComCast).
The downside is that when I scan I get about 300+ channels. Most are scrambled so I have to manually view each channel in MP. I write down on paper if it is a dud or note any channel call sign. Once I have a list of all channels I then delete the duds. Then I rename the channels which were ok and try to get an EPG for it using Schedules Direct.
This is tedious work and I wish it would just not add any scrambled channels during the scan and it would name it with a useful channel #.
The Schedules Direct works for some channels, but not for others.

    Thanks for your help.

    Moab,

    (1) what are you using for EPG (WebEPG grabber or Schedules Direct or something else)?

Never could get WebEPG to work. Thought I was going to have to pay for Schedules Direct (actually, a good deal) but I found mc2XML and it works fine.

    (2) what advantage is it in assign the 2 tuners (Analogue + ATSC/ClearCAM) to a hybrid. I don't do this.

We have a dual tuner card, but I'm pretty sure you can only use one tuner at a time. This Hybid config. prevents MP from trying to use both halves at the same time (and causing a problem).

    (3) what is the VHS settings for? (is it for those 2 RCA input jacks on the 1600 card)

You must have the MCE (1183) version like I do. Unlike the plain version of the HVR-1600, the MCE/1183 has a FM tuner on-board. The RCA jacks are stereo in.

S-Video-In uses the round 4-pin connector (can also be converted to old-school composite-in). I plan to use that for capturing or recording shows from the TimeWarner 8300 DVR (with it's "Send to VCR" function).

Likewise, if I was going to setup the whole "IR blaster" thing and use this PVR or other STB for tuning (and get every digital cable channel to MP), this would be the prefered video connection to the TV/Capture Card.

How many Clear QAM channels do you get on the 1600 with Comcast? I only get about 10 (the locals plus multiple PBS, etc). According to AntennaWeb.org, I might get a few more on ATSC, but it's hard to justify putting up an antenna when you pay for Digital Cable and 2 HD-PVRs (and don't plan on changing that).

Ya, when I did the QAM scan it picked up a lot of channels that didn't really work. I had to delete them manually. Win-TV did the same thing as I recall.

I like tinkering with the MP-TV and seeing what I can make it do, but I hardly have a use for it (expect for the capture ... and well, if I need to record FIVE shows at one time :) but it's cool to see what I can make it do. Plus the whole idea of an "Open-PVR" is very cool. If I was relying it on it to record my shows (didn't have the other dedicated DVR's) to get anywhere close to the full channel line-up, I would still have to rent at least a CableCard or standard def STB from TimeWarner (and do the IR Blaster thing). I would think the same would apply to people with Satellite.

    Hi

I don't really want hijack this thread, but I will ask Q anyway. I'm looking to buy wintv 1600 1183 or Asus PHC3. Both have dual tuners. This is what I would like it to do. I want to get Digital over the air channels and channels from my dishnetwork satellite reciever(old one) using IR blaster.

    Now the questions:
Can I record shows from both?
Can I view life TV from ether of them?

    Thank you.
