Hi all,

I am setting up a new version of media portal, it has been running OK for a couple of weeks with the Nova DVB-S TV card, but I cannot get the HVR 3000 to work.

I would like to run 2 cards, both using DVB-S. I have the following questions

1) What could be the reasons the HVR 3000 is not working. I have heard that it is not supported by media portal, but that is because of analog part of the card not having a hardware encoder. Some people have got the DVB-S part of that card working.
2) Is it possible to run 2 cards on 1 satellite dish? (I have a sky dish in NZ which has an LNB frequency of 11300). I have the Nova card working at 11300Mhz.

Anyway I have done as much as I can think of at the moment, e.g swapping cables over, disabling the Nova card to make the HVR 3000 the only card available.

I have all the main stuff set up OK because the Nova actually works. If I disable the Nova, and then enable the HVR 3000, then try to scan it just doesn't find any channels, and then when I go to watch TV it just says that no dignal is detected.

Your help would be appreciated.

i'm using a hauppauge 4000 try getting a newer copy of the drivers from hauppauge.co.uk

thats what solved all my initial problems, hauppauges out of the box drivers were awful.

also try using a newer version of media portal, i remember having issues with 2.2.0 which have been fixed in the 2.3. RC's

Thanks

Right, thanks for that. I am just thinking about updating the drivers. I did that, but maybe the trouble is that I didn't clear out the old drivers properly. They may actually remain. I will give that a go.

I have to be careful with 2.3 as I need to know it will be stable. What's it like at the moment, quite stable?

What about the other part, can I run 2 cards off one sky satellite dish? Will they both have the LNB set to 11300 (this is what currently works with my nova).

Any body else had any similar issues with the HVR 3000?

use 2.3 RC1 not RC 2, 1 seemed more stable to me, not as stable as 2.2 but since it helped fix my hauppauge issues i think you'll have to be prepared to live with it.

as for using two cards off one satellite dish, i'm not exactly sure, i'm fairly sure provided you have more than one LNB you can use more than one card, but i don't think you'll be able to run dual cards (running separate channels simultaneously) off one LNB

Hi there, I use 2 x Technisat Skystar 2 cards off one LNB with a splitter and it works fine, using latest version of MP. I can watch record any/all Freeview channels without any problems.

Thanks

Maybe I will try RC1 and RC2 and see how it goes.

Just wondering, can I just backup my current media portal directory and roll back if it doesn't solve my problem or if I have issues? What about the TV program database, are they compatible?

Thanks for the info on 2 cards off 1 LNB I have had that debate with someone before, but the proof is in the pudding eh.

The latest!

I uninstalled 0.2 and installed the latest release candidate.

When I try to scan for channels now to see whether the cards are working neither of them scan properly. Although when I start media portal as usual the nova is still working, but not the HVR. When I try to use the HVR it says that no card is free.

Previous to installing the release candidate (when I was running 0.2) I updated the driver and that meant I was able to scan channels with the HVR for the first time, but when I tried to use the card I got the message that the graph could not be initialised etc, you know the standard message that you see around the forums every now and then.

I tried an experiment with the latest release candidate and the result is attached (the log files). I logged onto media portal, tuned to TV3 (which would use the nova), hit the record button and then tried to change to TV2 (which would try to use the HVR). I got the message that no tuner card was free, and that message is written into the mediaportal.log file. attached.

I may try GBPVR to see if it can use that card (I don't like GBPVR though, so I will not be converting).

I could not make any more sense of the logs. Please help. I am struggling to get the HVR to work at all.

The latest again!

Hi All,

I decided to give everything another go, and I have more of an idea of what the problem is now.

1) I removed both cards and deleted all drivers.
2) I put the HVR-3000 only into the computer.
3) I installed the drivers (don't forget that the nova was not installed at all at this stage).
4) The HVR-3000 worked!
5) I then installed the nova and the drivers
6) Back to square 1, the HVR-3000 is not working anymore.

I noticed something else weird which shows what the problem actually is. I have both cards installed, and I added the HVR-3000 only into the tv card setup. I started media portal with the aerial connected to the nova and the TV worked. Even though it was supposed to be using the HVR-3000 only the signal was actually being picked up through the nova.

It seems the hardware between the cards is clashing with each other, and I noticed this in graphedit, I couldn't connect some of the pins, but when I connected one of them the graph extended itself on a random component at another place on the screen.

I noticed in graph edit that the internal components of the nova and HVR-3000 are the same, so it seems like at one stage in the graph it is jumping between the components onto a different card.
