Hauppauge MCE remote not fully functional (1 Viewer)

Dear all,

This weekend I bought a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 Media Center Kit (including the WinTV-PVR-150 MCE card and a MCE remote with receiver). Installing the card went without problems. For the remote I, strangely, needed a driver from the CD that came with this package. After that, the remote functioned perfectly with Media Center, but not with Mediaportal. Only the directional buttons, the OK button and the volume up/down buttons seem to work properly. I also can use the clear button to go back (instead of the back button). The channel up/down buttons and the play/pause/record/stop/rewind/forward/replay/skip and mute buttons are not functional.

In Device Manager I have the eHome Infrared Receiver under USB controllers and under Human Interface Devices I have the Microsoft eHome Infrared Tranceiver, 2 times a HID-compliant consumer control device, 4 times a HID-compliant device and 3 times a USB Human Interface Device. Finally I have three different Microsoft eHome Keyboards (one MCIR Keyboard, one MCIR 109 Keyboard and one Remote Control Keyboard Keys) under Keyboards.

I have searched the forum, but was not able to find a solution to solve my problem. Oh, I'm using Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with rollup 2, so the MCE remote should have been working without any drivers.

    Hi DJMarcel

    Welcome to the forum.

Usually the European remote has RC6 on the battery cover, not sure on the American version, but you are right, if you plugged the receiver into either MCE with Rollup2 or XP Pro SP2 the ehome drivers are automatically detected and installed.

It's the keyboard settings that give the extra functionality to the remote, have you enabled MCE Remote in Mediaportal settings.

Do not forget if you want the remote to start MP you will need to download and install MPTray.

    Regards

Thanks for your fast reply. I do indeed have the European version with RC6 on the back. As I said in my first post, I am running MCE Rollup2, but the eHome drivers were not automatically detected and installed when I plugged in the receiver. I had to put de disc that came with the WinTV-PVR-250 MCE Kit in the drive before it would find and install the drivers.

I did enable MCE Remote in the Mediaportal settings. It looks like only the buttons that are functional in Windows (directional buttons, OK, volume up/down, number keys, clear and enter) are also functional in Mediaportal. In Windows Media Player and in Media Center also the play, pause, ... buttons are working, but not in Mediaportal.

There are a few more threads in this forum about problems with this remote, but none of them end with a solution (or I must have missed one). I really hope it is possible to get this remote fully functional in Mediaportal, as it is one of the last steps before I can move from Media Center to Mediaportal.

I have exactly the same problems as you have. See the post "mce remote problems". I have not found a solution yet. I will try a new install of XP and MP after my vacation, maybe that will help

    ronaldus,

That's what I also tried already. As my remote was not working (on a Windows install which had been running for more than a year already) I decided to reinstall Windows XP MCE and Mediaportal yesterday. Unfortunately, the remote did work perfectly in Media Center (as it did before the reinstall), but not in Mediaportal.

I hope reinstalling does work for you (and I hope a solution for me can be found).

Ok, so you already tried a reinstall. Then I think that this will not bring a solution for me. I'll try the reinstallation after my holiday.

    Paranoid Delusion,

This update rollup 2 for the eHome receiver (which was also on the CD that came with my tv-card) has been installed and after that the receiver was indeed recognized and installed by Windows. After that the remote was fully functional in Media Center en Windows Media Player. Now I still need to get it working in Mediaportal.

ronaldus: before my reinstall I used Windows XP Home and now I installed Windows XP MCE 2005.

    Hi,
Post your mediaportal.log to MediaPortal Pastebin after you have started MP & tested remote, maybe something in there tells whats wrong.....

Enable logging for the remote in MP Setup first.

    ronilse,

There is a log-file from Mediaportal with my first post.

For now, I went back to Windows XP Home. The Windows XP MCE 2005 I was using for some days was installed on my regular PC (to be able to see if my tv-card and remote would work properly then), but is intended for a dedicated media center PC I want to build. I didn't really feel like installing all other programs on that OS (as I had to reinstall again anyway). As soon as my media center PC has been built (which will be in a couple of weeks) I will continue my experiments with Mediaportal.

    Regards, Marcel
