Does anyone have any idea why a Hauppauge PVR 150 MCE would interrupt the operation of a computer's Serial COMM ports when it is being accessed?

I have confirmed this anomaly using both MP and also in Dscaler. If the Hauppauge card is in use it will prevent Winlirc from being able to send commands through the comm port to the IR Blaster.

I have 4 COMM ports in my machine and it does this to everyone of them. Perhaps I am mistaken and it is not intefering with the COMM port but instead Winlirc itself, however I think the COMM port more likely though I cannot think of a reason.

If anyone can offer any help with this I would greatly appreciate it!

I would think it has something to do irq's check if your comm ports share the irq with the hauppauge card. If so, insert your hauppauge card in a different slot. You could also try guru 3d's latency tool.

    Hi,

FWIW, I've been successfully using my only serial port (COM1) together with my Hauppauge PVR-150MCE with WinLIRC and a DIY IR receiver. It's been a while though since I've used the combination to control MP. Maybe it's related to a specific hauppauge driver version? You do use the MCE drivers, right?

One thing I did notice was I needed to tweak the accuracy of received remote codes of my remote config for WinLIRC. Because, when my system had a high CPU load somehow the IR codes were received somewhat garbled. Lowering the accuray of received IR codes fixed this for me. If I didn't, the remote wouldn't respond in My TV - the plugin which uses the most CPU here.

    Kind regards,
    Michel

I'll take a look at the IRQs. Where can I get the Latency tool and what does it actually do?

I am using Winlirc to send codes to control a Pay TV STB, which is also sending it's analog signal to the 150 MCE. When changing the STB channel whilst MP is viewing a BDA card, the COMM port / Winlirc works fine. But once the 150 MCE is activated I get VERY reduced COMM port activity.

Yes I am using the MCE drivers, the standard 150 drivers do not work at all with my card.

I downloaded the Latency tool and nothing is set above 64.

The Hauppauge is using IRQ 23, the PCI card that contains COMM ports 3 and 4 is using IRQ 22 and COMM ports 1 and 2 use IRQ 3 and 4. I have tried swapping the IRQ on COMM 1 and 2 in bios, but there is no difference.

The Hauppauge is somehow hogging the COMM Ports.

I have downloaded the latest CD drivers from www.Hauppauge.com CD V 3.1b and I am using driver version 2.0.35.23348 for the PVR 150MCE from it.

This is really devastating to me, Winlirc is the MOST relieable (100% for me) way of changing channels on my Digital Sattelite PayTv STB.

If anyone has any other ideas it would be appreciated.
