I have been having problems with MediaPortal regarding my TV performance. I had installed FFDSHOW to fix some audio synch problems I had...it didn't fix anything. So I un-installed MediaPortal and reinstalled it again, checked the tv with default configuration and my remote worked fine but I was still having the audio and the video not synching. Then I switched my codec to FFDSHOW and my TV output looked and sounded fine...but now my remote stops working once I enter My Tv. There is a considerable amount of a delay before My Tv starts as well. I don't think it should take 30 seconds to load. I can use my remote everywhere else in MediaPortal and it works fine...until I enter My Tv. After that, I have to use the keyboard or mouse. Or I can exit MediaPortal and start it back up and my remote works again.

What is going on? I've searched all over for problems regarding the hauppauge remote controller and anything related to ffdshow codecs...but have found nothing.

Does it work fine with MPV\MPA codecs, if it does then somehow FFDShow is taking over focus of the controls.

Does enabling\disabling keyboard\remote support in the ffdshow video config make any difference.

I have the same card (HVR-1250/1196) and the same remote and the same problem as the OP who said "I can use my remote everywhere else in MediaPortal and it works fine...until I enter My Tv. After that, I have to use the keyboard or mouse. Or I can exit MediaPortal and start it back up and my remote works again."

Below info is just a copy/paste & edit -- I haven't retrieved a log file yet since not getting an error -- would it still help?

    TV-Server Version: 1.0.0.0
    MediaPortal Version: 1.0.0.0
    MediaPortal Skin: blue3
Windows Version: Windows XP Home SP3
    CPU Type: Intel Wolfdale E8400
HDD: Western Digital 150GB 10,000 RPM
    Memory: 4GB
    Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3L
    Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
    Sound Card: Creative X-Fi
    1. TV Card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1250 Model 1196
    MPEG2 Video Codec: FFDSHOW
    MPEG2 Audio Codec: FFDSHOW
    h.264 Video Codec: FFDSHOW
    Satelite/CableTV Provider: Antenna (ATSC)
    Remote: Hauppauge 45 Button

The moment the TV initializes the remote fails, and not a moment sooner. The menu under My TV works fine, but if I click TV-On the remote will stop working. As a test, if I click TV-On then (for example) UP-UP-UP really fast the three fast clicks will register but by the time the TV comes on no further input will be accepted from the remote -- in other words, it doesn't fail until the stream kicks in. The only TV stream I have incoming is Digital (h.264 right since it's ATSC?) and the only h.264 decoder I see available is FFDSHOW -- however the remote works fine when playing non-TV h.264 sources such as a local high-def video file in an .mkv container.

I have tried to fiddle with the FFDSHOW decoder config to no avail. I have tried having the TV start fullscreen, and I have tried every combination of settings under the remote section of Mediaportal config that I can think of -- nothing works. Any ideas on what to try next? Mediaportal 1.0 is running great if I could only get this sorted out...

In addition to my original post, my remote always fails about 5 minutes into watching a movie...either a DVD or a MPEG from the hard drive. This may be a different issue all together.

I have tried to configure the ffdshow options and have had no luck.

I had a problem with my remote dying from time to time, which I finally figured out was due to my having accidentally set up a few channels as having EPG data. It seems that TVServer would try and tune these channels and grab guide data that didn't exist over and over again and the TV card would eventually shutdown, taking the remote control with it, seeing as Hauppauge were nice enough to make the remote directly connect to the card. You might want to check your logs for the TV server and see if anything looks strange.

    Some more information:

If I configure MediaPortal to NOT use any remote, and instead map out some functions in the .ini file for the Hauppauge IR software I can control MediPortal that way, which works fine until the TV stream kicks in and the remote cuts out all the same.

Also, if using the .ini method when it cuts out I can then 'Restart IR' and my mapped functions in the .ini will start working again even while the TV stream is running. Could the problem be something that occurs during initialization of the stream and not some sort of conflict with the stream itself? Maybe if MediaPortal could somehow restart its own internal IR support after initializing the TV stream the problem could be circumvented.

Since the .ini and native Hauppauge method doesn't prevent it from happening, I am still out of luck. Has anyone found any creative workarounds for this?

@ poppabk - I have all EPG turned off, and it is a clean install of MP 1.0 on a fresh XP install as well. I cannot find anything 'strange' in the three log files that get updated as soon as the tv stream kicks in (tv, tswriter, streaming server), I could post the corresponding timestamped parts of the logs if someone thinks that might help...
