Hi all, I'm at the end of my tether with regards to this TV card and resuming from standby. I want to resume from standby so that i may be able to set recordings while im out for the box to switch itself on.

The problem: When resuming from standby, sometimes i get a big window before MP starts saying WinTV Remote with the options to CLOSE or EXIT IR..before MP loads. Regardless of whether this appears or not (i dont think it appears sometimes due to different config as listed below), when i try to view TV i get "Failed to start graph" error.

Things ive tried:

1) I have the latest Hauppauge drivers and flushed them through.
2) I've also installed the latest hauppauge IR drivers.
3) I've enabled powerscheduler and tried with init tuners after standby both on and off.
4) Ive tried the MCE standby tool http://www.xs4all.nl/~hveijk/mst/indexe.htm in all possible variations i can think of.

Is there a magic formula which just *works*? :( I've countlessly searched this forum and cannot find an answer...i've seen references to threads saying its a known problem but they don't give the link! I've heard this device usually behaves quite well with MP so i'm eager for it to work from standby (it works if you boot the box from shutdown). Has the SVN builds since the download on the main page had any bugs sorted in them with regards to this? As I only have the stable release thats on the front of the download page.

Thanks in advance...:)

Download the MCE install, not the whole works, this just installs the drivers and not the software.

And PVRScheduler will be your friend, this T500 is a usb based device, fitted to a pci board and controlled by a via chipset.

When MP resumes the board is not ready so you get the fail to connect problem, PVRS overcomes this by not restarting MP straight away.

Use mainly the default settings, as work fine for me.

MP itself has never overcome this problem, because it requires a outside influence, not a plugin.

    Hi PD,

Thanks for the reply. Does PVRS simply shutdown MP before standby, then when you come out of standby waits a few seconds before re-initialising MP? Because MCE standby tool does a similar thing and did not solve the problem. I'd also preferably like a free solution (but willing to try PVRS if all else fails...but i dont even know if this will solve the problem).

When you say download the MCE install, what do you mean exactly? I dont understand...I have only installed the hauppauge drivers by using the driver install utility on the download. I then had to install the IR32 utility as well for the remote to work.

    Hi again,

I've splashed out for PVRS but this has not solved the problem. I still get unable to start graph. Any ideas? Ta.

If you bring the PC out of standby, then manually exit and restart MP (not using MST or PVR Scheduler), does TV work then? If so, then MST or PVR Scheduler should work. I have had the same problem, and use Girder (which I had anyway) to exit and restart MP every time the PC resumes from standby, and that worked - I'm not using the 500T any more, so can't add much more I'm afraid.

    Hi,

Yes, if i manually exit MP and load it again after standby the TV works. However, I dont see PVRS or MCE standby tool actually restarting MP after standby? It seems to come straight up. Infact, i just tried it again with PVRS and it just booted up to the desktop and MP didn't even load!

I *think* i may have cracked it...i've written a .bat file to restart the IR software on resume...i'm just testing it a few more times but it looks like it may have worked.

Well, something's not working properly there then. I thought both MST ad PVR Scheduler stopped MP before standby and restarted it on resume. Assuming I'm right you need to check the config of whichever you are using.

Yeah, I checked MCE tool and that can switch it off before standby and switch it back on when you resume but that didnt seem to work. The bat file seems to have worked but i do get a lot of popups about once per second saying "cannot find c:\Program Files\<something>\eshell.exe" or might be ehome, i cant remember. Maybe remnants of the mce tool? (its been uninstalled for a while).

When the bat file restarts the ir application though the popups dissappear?

Ok, its not working again :( Lots of popups from standby with:

    c:\windows\ehome\ehshell.exe
    "Application not found"

Any ideas? If it helps i have an antec case with imon soundgraph installed which may be conflicting somehow?

"ehome" is Windows MCE home menu, I think. Check MST to make sure you're not trying to start ehome from there. I can't think of any other reason ehome would be trying to start on resume from standby (if that's what's happening).

I'm not even using MST though and i cant find any reference to ehome in it. Ive also tried searching the registry but cant find any reference to ehome, apart from in ffdshow but that shouldnt matter.

Ive uninstalled the Hauppauge IR drivers however and it seems this is the problem as the ehome doesnt pop up anymore. But of course now i cant use the remote for MP! Argh! Does anyone have a link to some good hauppauge ir drivers?

Are you actually using the case IR or the one linked to the TV card to control MP.

If you shut down via PVRS, you get a countdown usually whilst it is doing its job, this also applies to the plugin that comes with it, controlled by mediaportal.

Did you allow PVRS to interact with desktop, this section allows the power\standby buttons to be directly linked to PVRS.

Sorry been a long day, if none of above help will try and assist tomorrow when feeling a bit fresher.
