Having trouble controlling MP (1 Viewer)

I am trying to program my Harmony 880 to work with MP right now and its giving me alot of grief. I cant get it to stop - pause - play a video for starters. When Mediaportal starts up it starts at Watch Tv shows I click that I can navigate through those menus and select something to watch but I can never go back so if I hit watch a tv show I have to use my keyboard and mouse to get back to the menu to say watch a movie.

It does when I hit the forward arrow skip forward though the show though. Half of the buttons will bring up Windows Media Center as well so I can hear that making noise in the background.

In MP Config under Remote settings I have it set to MCE remote and have the extended mapping box checked I didnt know what it did so I checked it..... I am using the MCE IR reciever and when I programmed the Harmony 880 I set the device as a Microsoft Windows Media Center.

What do I need to do to just make it so the Harmony can do the basic controls I need to navigate and control?!?!?!?!

The Harmony software is definitely a pain in the %$#%. Do you have a device setup as "Media Center PC" with it configured as MS Win Media Center? If so, it should work. Don't know why it wouldn't. Some screenshots...

Ok mine was slightly different then yours so I reset mine up to match and am going to try it again once I fix MP....

One question though can you post a screenshot of yours where it says Review the settings for this activity as well.

Also is there a way to make it not startup WMC?

And on the MP side how do you have your remote setup?

i made my harmony 1100 control the firedtv card and used the firedtv remote to learn the commands, worked somewhat ok... altho the favorite channels for some reason uses my tvs analogue tuner instead of the digital or the firedtv tuner... just cant seem to change that anywere...

One question though can you post a screenshot of yours where it says Review the settings for this activity as well.

I have an activity setup called "Watch HTPC". Attached is a screenshot. You will notice the last command I send it to switch it to Recorded TV as 9 times out of 10 I'm going there to watch something that recorded.

Also is there a way to make it not startup WMC?

How do I disable MCE?

And on the MP side how do you have your remote setup?

As an MCE remote.

I have a harmony 676 that I programmed as an MCE remote and I could not get it to work correctly with MediaPortal even if I checked off the box to use an MCE remote in the MP configuration. What ended up making everything work properly was to turn off the remote in MediaPortal (uncheck all the remote types) and install the IR Server Suite software available on this forum under the plugins subforum. Then in the IR Server Suite config I told it I had an MCE remote, and voila everything started magically working - now my remote works in Arcsoft, PowerDVD, MediaPortal, and everywhere else I've tried to use it.

Alright I havent tried the IR suite yet so I still have the Harmony prgrammed for Microsoft Media PC and I have MP programmed as MCE remote and now my Harmony turns on my Xbox 360....

Alright IR Server Suite rocks it worked instantly after I installed it no headaches....The only thing I have to figure out now is how to make my XBOX not turn on when I hit my remote for my HTPC. I am not sure what all commands turn it on but the Activity Use HTPC definently does.

I had the same issue - Xbox has 2 settings for remote - accept input from both Xbox360 remote AND media center remote, OR just accept input from Xbox360 remote. I changed the setting from "Both" to just Xbox360 so my Harmony acting as a media center remote wouldn't turn it on. The setting can be set in your Xbox360 system settings menu under "Console Settings" and then "Remote Control". Hope that helps

edit: Alright mission acomplished Harmony is working great on the HTPC thanks to IRSS and the xbox no longer turns on via that remote setting which is excellent.
