Hi folks
I am really enjoying discovering Media Portal on my HTPC - the application is truly superb!

I am wondering if the FAQ is out of date with regard to saying "only 1 DVB card is supported" and then linking to the bug fix: I think more than one card is supported and indeed Media Portal will complain if it finds that the bug fix for the BDA driver hasn't been applied.

Any objections to a noob editing the Wiki? :D

Or have I missed the point of the FAQ?

:D
Nick.

    Hi,

I'd say the FAQ is correct. It tells you what the problem is, and where to find the solution.

The problem was not fixed with XP SP3, so I removed the comment indicating that it might be.

The new difference, which you correctly point out, is that there is now a check to verify if the bugfix has been applied. This is so that the team don't get a load of bug reports about a known issue.

Personally I'd leave the FAQ as it is, but others may have a different opinion.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Thanks :)
Perhaps it's the salesman in me, but I'd spin it positively so people don't think "that's a bit off"

    Currently it says:
How many TV-Cards can i use properly with MediaPortal?
Generally speaking as much as you can install into your PC.
But there is a limitation caused by a bug in WindowsXP.
With Windows XP you can only use 1 DVB-Card without issues. You can still use multiple analog cards and one DVB-Card. But because of the bug in Windows XP you can't use more than one DVB-Card out of the box.
The only exception is the Skystar2 which doesn't use a BDA-driver and is supported by MediaPortal. You can use one or two Skystar 2 TV-Cards along with one other DVB-TV-Card and multiple analog cards with WindowsXP.

    I'd change it to read:

MediaPortal can make use of as many cards you have configured in order to allow multiple recordings, time shifting, watching live tv etc. In some versions of Windows XP there is a bug in the support for multiple DVB cards within Windows XP itself (specifically the BDA driver stack): the good news is that there's a fix available, please see this thread for further instructions and information.

Do you see what I'm getting at? Unless you read the whole FAQ entry you'll think that it's still an issue... More than happy for the FAQ to be left as-is, but I wonder if something stating there's a fix straight after opening the issue would be useful.

    Cheers!
