Help! Can't get MCE Replacement Plugin to work with Sky STB (1 Viewer)

Hi:

I'm from Wellington, New Zealand, and am in need of help getting MCE Replacement plugin to work with blasting for my Sky (NZ) STB - it's a Pace DSR2000.

I'm running 0.2.2.0 (no SVN), and even tried 0.2.3.0 RC1 but plugin just would not blast/send commands to Sky's STB. I can configure and learn the remote command OK, but everytime I goto the TV Guide and select a channel nothing happens - My Sky STB just would not switch channels.

FYI, I'm currently using MyBlaster under 0.2.2.0 and it works fine! I'm looking at going to 0.2.3.0 RC1 but until I can the blasting working with my STB I can't upgrade...

I was having same problems with IR suite, but MCE rep.p. worked.

I noticed in one occasion that:
- only one of the ports worked (can't remember which
- I believe I had to set the plugin to blast on this, and only this, port (not both).

Does it work in config./setup, when clicking "Test"?

Well, doesn't look like it worked even under config/test. I mean I can obviously learn the IR commands, but when I use test test, I can see a red light emitted by the blaster but the STB is not receiving/changing any channels.

When you learn the IR-codes, make sure that there is no disturbance - like from TV, other remotes, light etc.

This make a difference here, anyway...

I just found this on the net:

Please note that Pace 1000 and 2000 series digital cable boxes used
by NTL & Telewest use an infra red system called IRDA.
Unfortunately these IRDA codes cannot be learnt by learning
remotes and are incompatible with IR extender systems such as the
Powermid, TR2450 and GV70 etc

It seems that maybe (though I may be wrong) your box uses codes (IRDA) that can't be duplicated by the MCE device ...

You could try the new system that is in use in the IR Server Suite, but I don't hold much hope.

What other connections does the STB have? Serial, USB ?

If it's got Serial then you could try that.

Thanks for your reply - that could explain it. However, I find it strange is that it worked with MyBlaster - for MyBlaster I've have to learn the remote commands as well - worked without problems in MyBlaster. Besides I think it's a pretty common STB here in NZ and I believe there could be other people who go it working. Just wondering if it's anything to do with my setup that's all.

Anyway, the STB does appear to have serial on it, however, I'm not too sure how to set it up using serial...Any thoughts / comments on this?

Well, I've finally managed to fix my problem, after a few tries (and serves me right for ignoring advice!)

Anyway, I found out my problem has got nothing to do with the learning function etc. I have to configure/set my Blaster port to port 2, and make sure the blaster is physically plugged into port 2 of the MCE IR receiver for it to work. For some strange reason when I was using MyBlaster the blaster worked Ok when plugged into port 1. However, this is not a problem for me as I only have 1 STB anyway...

I've since upgrade MP to 0.2.3.0 RC1 and tested this plugin, and seemed to work fine so far. Next will try out the mouse mode!

oops, I missed the bit about it working in MyBlaster ... I look pretty foolish now

About the only Port 2 working thing, have you tried changing the "Blaster Manufacturer" setting?

Lots of NZ specific info there! Im using SKY through a PVR150, and Freeview with a Sky Star 2...
