Help manually adding fanart (1 Viewer)

As my question wasn't getting any love in the fanart thread, I figured I would try a new thread.

First, let me say thanks for the fantastic TV Series plugin - it's easily Media Portal's best and most distinctive plugin. I couldn't be happier with the way it works.

At the moment I'm running the latest Media Portal SVN, and the latest TV Series (v2.2.3361 SVN Test Release) with StreamedMP skin.

As far as I can tell everything is running perfectly except for when I try to manually add fanart. The config parser import worked fine to download fanart, which I think is stored in a folder called "original" within the fanart folder, and I can also select and download additional fanart from within Media Portal.

However when I copy png files that I've manually downloaded from Spuck's site into \Program Data\...\thumbs\fanart nothing shows. That is where the TV Series' config about menu says it is located. I tried playing around with putting the new files in the subfolders "Fan Art" and "original" but that doesn't work. I've also tried renaming the files to xxxx-x and converting them into jpgs which is the format of the other fanart copies from thetvdb.

Any help? I don't have logs atm, because I'm not home. But is there something obvious I am missing?

The online fanart overrides user dropped in fanart this is why its not being seen.

The only way to see your manual fanart would be to NOT auto download fanart and NOT open the Fanart Chooser window as these two actions would populate the database. So you will need to delete your database and disable auto-download fanart in configuration, or delete your fanart table in the database if your comfortable with doing that.

The plugin first looks at entries in the database and prefers this, if it doesnt find any then it picks one from your manually dropped in artwork.

Hopefully that makes sense. The manual drop in fanart functionality existed before online fanart was available.

Thanks for the quick response ltfearme. I appreciate that.

What you've said makes sense and I'm actually relieved to hear it's not a bug or something wrong with my setup.

I definitely won't be deleting my database. It's pretty big and the files are all in network shares, so it takes many hours to re-import. I may have a go at editing the database in sql lite after a backup though.

If wanted to get around that though, could I try uploading particular fanart from Spuck's site, or any I make personally, to thetvdb and then using the GUI to download them within MP as that seems to work fine? I'm assuming the MP option to source them online is parsing them from thetvdb?

Yeah, the best thing to do is upload your fanart to theTVDB.com. The plugin gets all artwork from there. Just be sure to read the guidelines before uploading :)
