Hi guy's.
I'm new here on the forum but not new to media portal, I have used it for a few years now and it's called "The Digital Revolution" in our house..since that's the way I introduced it to my girlfriend here.
Truly great software, I really love it, my complements to everybody involved !
I never registered for the forum because I have always managed to figure stuff out myself and by reading other peoples suggestions, but now I do need some help.
I currently have a shuttle with a AMD 2500+ cpu 512MB ram 250GB HD and Haupage analoge tv card, a 4xxx something nvidia card with a S-VHS output onboard.
I am planning on getting a FullHD TV (~107cm) and realize I need to upgrade my analoge Casema TV thing to something digital and I need a new HTPC because my 2500 AMD shuttle isn't going to do the HD thing very well.
I am open for different types of digital subscribtions, be it T/C or whatever else is available on the market
I am open for different types of cards / tuners / basicly anthing as long as the costs are not in the absurd range PCI is preverd as opposed to USB to keep the WAF up (less clutter).
My wishes :
I am looking for a solution that will allow me to watch TV without the PC on.
I want to be able to record one show while watching another.
I don't want any connection issue's with my TV - PC (DVI/VGA/HDMI?)
I want to be able to do the HD-DVD/Blueray thing later (in my HTPC)
If possible I don't want yet another remote for channel switching due to some box that needs this, I like to use the TV remote and the MCE remote if possible.
Of course a silent and powerfull system, I am pretty good with PC hardware so I can figure out what kinds of typical pc componets I need for a silent system.
My questions :
What kind of digital subscription do I need (or would be best) for my wishes (and location) ?
What kind of card(s) do I need to fulfill my wishes
What kind of TV would be best (Phillips / Samsung ?) for the PC connection.
What kind of connection should I use, VGA/DVI/HDMI/????
I don't really understand the whole digital TV thing but I do understand I can't just split the signal like I do now and have a TV / HTPC running of one connection or can I ?
Please advise,
Stefan
