New Version with Keyboard & Remote Info can be downloaded from https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Plugins/Others/HelpPlugin/

    Hi,

Inspired by a feature request (which now seems to be deleted because of cross-posting ?) I started typing up a small Help Plugin, which shows based on the current window and control some helptext in a dialog when pressing the ? key (no mapping yet, should be a global action, I know).

The help.xml file needs to be stored in the correct language to allow localization. I added one entry for the home screen, so nothing great yet.

The attached file includes source codes, so everybody can have a look.

Install: (Use the Debug version, No release compilation yet)
    Copy Plugin to Plugins/Proces
Copy help.xml to your selected language/english (only one available, no real texts yet)

Start MP and press ? key on the keyboard (or map something to do the ? pressing for you).

Any questions / feedback, please post here.

Why was my thread deleted? Where are the attachments?

Anyway I forgot to mention that you would need a recent SVN Version to run the plugin, because some of the settings handling has changed.

    Here are the attachments again.

    ** EDIT **
Remove the attachment. Please check https://www.team-mediaportal.com/files/Download/Plugins/Others/HelpPlugin/ for the newest release of the plugin.

It was accidentially deleted, but I was able to recover it. Seems in that process the attachment got lost. Sorry for any inconveniences.

But nevertheless, please use the download repository to upload files rather than posting them here on the forums. You can update them there any time as well.
This way you can make sure that users find your plugin without going through millions of form posts. ;)
Also we have a better overview what plugins are available and in case of needed changes we're able to contact the author. Result of it all: Better service for the end user.

No problem mPod. I was mainly curious, becouse of the term "cross-posting". I created this post, than added a link to it to the one you wanted to delete and thought: was the removal because I posted my link around? Obvoiusly not (so I am not a bad guy ;-)

I will also post it to the download section in due time, but right now it is still a bit useless, since there are no texts yet. I just wanted to get some feedback if such a feature is usefull for the community (the feedback will probably be limited, because the people needing the help menu are less represented on the forums usually).

    Anyhow, thanks for the explanation.

As you're so curious, I can shortly explain what happened:

I ticked your posts for administration but closed the browser window again, cause there was no need for administration. Usually you'd expect that the "ticks" done disappear then, cause I didn't hit the "ok" button to execute an action.
After that I had to delete a crossposting in a completely different thread. It turned out that the forum system saved the ticks for your posts internally, so they got deleted while executing the action for the crosspost-thread. That's how you got the message about "cross-posting".
Weird behaviour, somewhat unexpected, but after talking to our forum guru we found out that it's more a feature than a bug. Shouldn't happen again, we informed all our Mods/Admins.

Somewhat off topic now, but maybe an interesting/entertaining story from a forum's admin life. :D

Just uploaded a version to the file repository, which is already usefull!

    It now shows:
    - Helptexts, but also
    - Remote Mapping and
    - Keyboard Mapping

Everything is still in English, localization is not even started, but still it might help a bit when you are looking for that odd little key that performed the wizzardy things you just need!

File is for review, so I will post here as soon as it is freed.

i really like the idea of this help plugin! unfortunately i cannot test it currently, but the screenshots (from the downloadrepository) look nice.

i think with some more work and language support that can be a very very usefull mp-plugin!

    regards, mofux

Hi. I've copied the files to the correct directories but can't get this plugin to work. As mentioned in the download section of this site, the RemotePlugins.dll file was replaced and then MP kept crashing on me so I replaced the original RemotePlugins.dll and this stopped the crashing but still no Help plugin. I upgraded to MP 0.2.0.4 and figured that I wouldn't need an SVN yet, but could this be the problem? Of course I'll patch an SVN today to check but does anyone have some advice if this isn't the problem?

    Cheers guys
    Gary

    Hi Maddcow.

Sorry for the late response, I was away for a while. I think the main issue might be because of a change in the RemotePlugins.dll which I added, but it is not added to the main development stream. I will check with the development crew, if this can be added and then I will publish a version which will work with SVN. I guess the 0.2.0.4 release is different in the RemotePlugins.dll.

So I have to ask you to wait a little more.
