Hi all,

I'm a newbie here (and to HTPC in general). I'm having a bit of trouble figuring it all out re terrestrial digital TV tuners. I'm looking for a USB or PCI card that will work well with MP as I want to run MP as my HTPC control software. I'm interested in the AverMedia or Hauppauge card ranges, mainly because I can get them cheap. I'm also interested in either a SD/HD or SD/Analogue card. Questions:

Will cards certified for use with WinXP MCE work with MP? I get the impression that as long as the card has BDA drivers available then it will work? I have some experience with PCs so I'm not afraid of trying to write a plugin to make it work with MP.

Am I right in thinking that the MCE cards generally just don't come with OEM software?

I am assuming that if I can get the card to work with MP, then I should be able to use any MP compatible remote to control the function of the card?

Any reccomendations in the Hauppauge range? I was looking at the HVR-1300 primarilly or the Nova-T 500 MCE.

Thanks!

I bought the haupage pvr150 that was an oem mce card...it came with no drivers or remote but I got it going by downloading the drivers from their website. I also use the winfast dtv1000t in a 2 systems, it works good with the standard drivers it came with, it came with a remote but i have never plugged it in as I use a oem microsoft mce remote.

The PVR150 card is not DVB-T. I had a Nebula Electronics DigiTV and a KWorld PCI card. Replaced them with a Nova-T 500 (dual tuner card). Works very well. I think MP is more stable with it and chanel changes are faster.

Cool, that pretty much answers my question regarding the MCE cards! I managed to find an answer to a similar question in the archives which has helped my decision also. I'm gonna get a Nova-T-500 MCE card.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Hi there,

how long does it take to switch channels with the Nova-T 500? I've got a Pinnacle PCTV310i and channel switching sucks. Takes up to 5 seconds. My 20 Eur DVB-T receiver does it in max 1.5 second....
