Hi,

I have installed MediaPortal and am wishing to watch TV on the same PC the tuner is in. IE - I am not going to be streaming just watching from the one place.

I open MediaPortal and click on the MyTV option and it says:
Please specify the Ip address or host name of the master service. The current is: HTPC-PC.

That is the same PC which I want to watch and the settings does list it as master. I am confused.

EDIT - If I click Preview in the settings menu I am able to watch the channel.

Just to update... I have fixed it so now when I click on MyTV it actually shows me the options but as soon as I trying viewing it the program slows up and doesn't go at it's normal pace until I exit MyTV. Only one channel is showing up too. And when I try and view it it eventually says "Connection to the TV serice has been lost'

To answer your question....your one PC is serving as both a client and server, so you dont have to do anything else. The slow-down sounds like a performance issue due to not having the minimum requirements....but you have not posted any details about your setup so its impossible to help you. Please follow the support-request requirements....like filling in your setup details, and attaching your log's.

Okay so I have figured out what has caused my problem...

I got it working again and then the same problem occured. The only things I did in that time was make a password for the Admin account... and add a folder to the MediaPortal MyVideos option.
Is there an issue with one of these?

OK, its not your specs..they are fine to run MediaPortal.... There are still a lot of other info missing...please complete those as well..

    Some other suggestions..

    1) Vista can have a few access issues...search the forums for hints...
    2) Are you running a firewall or an antivirus...these could interfere so disable them and see if it helps.
    3) Which codec are you using, try ATI's Avivo codec....the default one does not use your graphics-cards acceleration.
    4) Search the forum for your TV-card, perhaps there are others that had the same problem as you with the HVR2200.
    5) Is your PC always connected to the network....otherwise install the loopback network card...you can find info on this under the Wiki.
    5) Produce some LOGS of the problem and upload it so that we can have a look.

    1) Would my post above yours be what you are talking about?
    2) It worked with my AV on and off.
    3) At the moment I haven't got any codecs installed. It was working with the default settings.
    5) PC is always connected to the network. That is fine.
    6) When in Debug-mode I receive an error message and then it just stays on the same screen (not frozen... but not moving)

I must be honest, it sounds like you have an environmental problem....have you tried a fresh Vista installation? Also without your logs I can't really help you, and the fact that you cant get logs out is either an environmental problem or an Vista file access problem....

I also stongly recommend that you install the ATI Avivo codec and select it in the MP-config utility. Just to explain how the client/server works... When you look at the channel preview it is from the TV-Server stream and the codec is not used....but when you try and view TV from MediaPortal it uses the selected codec...and therefore my recomendation to use "Avivo"... By using the Avivo codec you will free up your CPU to take care of the normal MediaPortal functions...therby speeding up MediaPortal.

Can you also explain how you are using your TV-Card, are you watching "analogue" or "digital" tv? Also, what do you mean with "Only one channel is showing up", have you tuned your TV-Card to recieve all the channels?

Creating a password after installing MP, just may be screwing up all your permissions that MP needs for accessing services\files.

As Geov said, all these things need to be done prior to installing any software, so you may have to reinstall Vista with all updates\drivers, then I would use the backup function that Vista has, to create a image on another HDD or partition (my backup is 17gb in size, so recommend 18gb minimum) , You can restore a fully working\configured VistaSP1 in 10 minutes flat, restoring from this file, faster than Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage software, this is most probably one of the best features of Vista over XP.

    Regards

So you would think setting my password first is a better option? Is this a known issue? Do other people using Vista and using a password get this problem?

I'll keep trying to get my logs up.

Can you also explain how you are using your TV-Card, are you watching "analogue" or "digital" tv? Also, what do you mean with "Only one channel is showing up", have you tuned your TV-Card to recieve all the channels?

My card has tuned all channels. Analogue and Digital, although I am only wanting to watch/record Digital.

I have gotten in working since my first post...

    What I did was...

    Reformat and reinstall Vista
    Install Driver, Updates etc
    Install MediaPortal
And then MP worked fine until I created a password. This is what I think the problem is, however I'll give the codec a try too.
