I'm not exactly sure where to post this...but here goes.
I would like to create an installer file for a couple of skins i maintain...but i'm pretty clueless on how to do so. I've searched the web some, tried some programs, but haven't got very far. The purpose of an installer for a skin would be to give the user some choices; for example the user could choose between having 6, 8, 10, 12 lines in their tvguide page.

I figure i would have 4 tvguide xml pages in the package, each with a different name. The installer would take the file the user wanted, rename it to tvguide.xml and paste it into the folder in the user's skin directory. Choices could eventually be offered for icons/no icons in list controls, different tv/video OSDs and larger font sizes for those who require them.

Any help would be appreciated...once i'm pointed in the right direction with which program to use and how to configure a simple set of choices, i'd be set to work on my own. I hope to get something usable that other skinners can take and use with their skins if they desire.
    Thanks in advance

I thought a French group were working a complete skin and plugin installer but they were asked to wait until after the release of 0.2.0 . Did that fall through?

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know anybody else was working on an installer, i'll search the forums and see if i can find any references to it...i'll also give nullsoft a try, i don't think its one of the installer's i've already struck out with.

They were looking to have (from what I remember) perform the installs from the web with just a "plugin" in MP to get the files needed - basically perform everything (again, from what I remeber) inside of MP.

Isn't that what they want to do for the just the 2 default skins for the upcoming mp 0.3?

I haven't been on IRC in quite awhile - so maybe you are more aware than I am regarding this.

If i have understand it correct.
The skin update function going to list all available skins for MP, and make it posible to install them.

yea i haven't been paying as much attention as i should to the new developments...i saw this on the team-mediaportal front page:
"For 0.3.0 we plan to have a plugin & skin updater inside MediaPortal to allow you to easily add new features and designs without searching the web page or the forums right from your couch with your remote at your fingertips."

That would be a good development, but if mirk is right would make an installer for an individual skin kind of pointless. I'm still going to try to get it done, it may take a while for .3 and that feature to come out.

hwahrmann, thanks for the link...After using it for a couple of days i'm almost finished an installer. I have the pages laid out, i just need to figure out how to pass checked or unchecked values from a checkbox to an !if statement. Doesn't look too hard, and the nullsoft forum has been a lot of help.
