Hi guys

Ive had a 'media center' under my pc since the P3 days where I used to have an S-video connection, well ive moved on since then lol and ive always been using MCE until I heard of Media portal and It looks like exactly what I want! very customizable and the ability to choose external codecs is very good!

Im doing alot of preliminary research etc, however if anyone has any little tips let me know!

Also got a few quick questions:

1. I have several HDD's with movies scattered all across them, When viewing movie files, do I have to select the HDD/source and then view the Movies on there OR can MP list all the movies in one go from multiple HD's, makes it much easier to view all movies instead of trying to remember what movie is on what hard drive!

2. What is the best skin for visual HD and for implementation of plugins to get movie and tv info?

:D

    Hi there and welcome :)

    1. Short answer: Yes.
You can configure various "shares" with movie files. In the configuration program, you can scan them to database. The database views inside MP will combine everything in database.
Then there is also MovingPictures plugin...

    2. Well, according to recent poll (see recent frontpage news), Blue3Wide is most popular. Can also recommend StreamedMP and it will even install MovingPictures and TVSeries plugins for you.

    Hi, and welcome :)
    1. Use a database-view and every video will shop up - no matter where they are placed "physically".
This is what you want to achieve:

    2. Not sure I get it, but I prefer Moving Pictures for managing and mapping movies. You gotta check out MP TV-series as well. For skins, have a look your self: Hot Skins - MediaPortal Forum

    Edit: DAMN - BEATEN :D:D

Oh well, I'll add this then ---> https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/mediaportal-install-guide-49685/
    ....................................................^OK to get you going.

    pheonixsingh,

I have only just started using MP in the last week and the "Moving Pictures" plugin is awesome!!! It is so easy to set up and gives such a nice setup for movies.

    I can highly recommend it!

thanks for all the info guys

some of the skins look very nice indeed, are there any more native 1080p skins apart from black&white?

also with 'moving pictures' does it store all movie data on the HDD or does it pull it from the net every time?

The fun part of MP, is that you have so much freedom of choice. You can for example do the following:
    • Use Moving Pictures plugin for movies
    • Use TVSeries plugin for TV Series
    • Use the inbuilt video section for everything else
You define different drive(s)/directory(s) for each.
The mentioned plugins is not part of default installation.

for videos can you adjust the aspect rario
You can set the default aspect ratio in the configuration program. If you want to change something while you watch it, press the blue button on remote (or keyboard shortcut) to toggle between available aspect ratios.

    last question i promise!
Keep em coming ;) we have a lot of helpful users who will reply when possible.

Try MP out. Nothing to loose ;)
