    Hi and welcome :)

    1. I think most people would agree that 7 is a preferable OS.

    2. In regard to what?

    3. Its what MP uses to run the TV service. You need it if you are planning on using MP to watch TV. The MP installer will install SQL for you. When it asks for a password, just type 'MediaPortal'' (case-sensitive)

    4. As far as MP goes, SAF should allow you to play pretty much all common media formats. SAF is not a codec solution for other aspects of the PC - its designed for MP. If you want to use another media player apart from MP's inbuilt for tasks separate from MP use, consider VLC or MPC-HC - neither of which require additional codec installs which may interfere with SAF. If you are just running MP, SAF is very good.

's ok ... we only stick a dunce hat on you if you dont ask first and then get stuck :)

Single seat refers to a stand alone machine. If you are just using one HTPC then thats a single seat installation.

Ragarding Windows 7, I found that the 32bit one works the best.....64bit worked fine, but the 32bit runs faster.

    I'd recommend XP Pro SP3 or Win 7 32bit.

I recommend 32bit, because all the applications and directshow filters are all 32bit, so no real advantage with 64bit for HTPC. Also HTPC only needs 2gb ram max, so no problem there either.
