Is my high CPU load in idle state normal?
I know it has been discussed in several threads before but I really have not seen any solution or a straight answer.
When I am at homescreen I have a CPU useage of between 20-30% and that is when I am doing nothing. Just idle.

I just bought a Radeon HD3650 videocard and this is taking care excellent of HD material. Since it is DirectX10 compliant I also assumed it should take care of MP GUI workload as well?

I just want to know if CPU load of 20-30% is normal. If it is normal I think it really is too high for idle application but then at least I know I have nothing wrong in my system.

Well 20-30 % is a bit much. Normally. 20-30 % of a XP 2200+ is not that much, I'd guess (Palmino CPU?).

Could you verify that the 20-30 % is for the MP process only - or is it the system all toghether?

I will check this tonight when I am home. 20-30% is for the system in complete but I think that it more or less is 99% MP only.

MP does constantly re-render the screen even when it's idle - hit 'shift + 1' on the keyboard to bring up the rendering stats and look at the frame rate etc.

You can adjust the update rate - I'm not at a PC with MP on it at the moment, but it can be adjusted (in MP) via the settings pages - I think it's in the same section as the text scrolling speed adjustments.

I have now checked and 20-30% is mainly MPs process.

Update rate is about 25 fps. But should not the rendering be handled by the GPU and not the CPU?

It's both - software running on the CPU sends instructions to the GPU, which then does the low-level work to paint pixels on the screen.

My old 2800 does 15-20% in the home screen with MP1.0, so I would say this is normal for this model single core processor, compared to my newer X2 4200+ which runs at 2-3%.

One reason why I asked about high cpu load is because dvd playback is dropping frames/audio every now and then very random.
I am using intervideo windvd codec with dxva enabled. I have also tried dscaler codec but it is the same.

I can however not see that there are any cpu peaks when the glitches occur so I don't know if the glitches are related to cpu load.
The glitches does not occur if I play in WinDVD or in Windows Media Player so it must have something to do with MP.

    Any ideas?

I can more or less live with the glitches but is a bit annoying.
