TV - HTPC Connection: Composite

Hi.

I have a little problem with the cpu usage of the tv-server. The problem occurs when I connect 1 or more clients to the server that is also running a client, its only when watching live-tv on both the tv-server client and on the others at the same time. The picture on the tv-server client is stuttering and thats because the cpu usage is almost 100%, the tv-server takes about 45% and the client on the server takes 25-30%, is that normal? Do I have to upgrade the cpu or anything else. Hope that someone have any ide about what to do. I have already unistalled both antivirus and firewall, should that be necessary?

is it a dedicated server ? or do you have MP on the same box and you are runnning it as a client and also as a server for another machine?
also it may not be helping that you have a analog tuner as that increases the cpu usage comparaed to say a digital card

    Hi,

The HVR-1300 has hardware encoding for the analogue part of the card, so it should not affect the CPU usage, as far as I understand.

no its not dedicated as a server, I also have MP on it, but that is the only thing that's running on that machine, so its a dedicated HTPC and I want to use it as a server for 1-4 clients, but that doesn't seem to work if the CPU usage already is about 45% for the tv-server service when 2 clients are connected, what if a connect 1 or 2 more, will the tv-server service take 90%, then its not useable.
I agree with you Mark about the HVR-1300, it shouldn't use any CPU, I can say that I'm only using the analogue part of the card, if that have any affect?
How much CPU should the tv-server service use deppending on the number of clients connected, does anyone know?

What is your memory usage while this is occuring? I had a similar problem where i basically ran out of memory...adding some more memory resolved that problem.

I'm not sure about the memory usage, shall check when I come home tonight. Thanks for the reply.

Now I have tested with more memory 1Gb and the CPU usage its not 100% now, but close to it, its about 85% and peeks up to almost 100%, so what will happen if a put in 1 or 2 more tv-cards and stream them to 2 more clients, will that work or will the CPU usage go over the top again?
Is there anyone that have done a similar test like that with 7 tv tuners, but instead of recording on those, tested to stream them to clients? Should be a usefull test to see how it performs.

Now I have done some more test and there is one thing that I dont understand.
I'm running MP both on the server and also on a client. The CPU on the server is Celeron 3.2 GHz and the CPU on the client is Pentium4 3.4 GHz, memory is 1BG on both. So the thing that I dont understand is why the CPU usage on the server for MP is around 30% and mem usage is 60 MB and on the client is the CPU usage between 5-10% and the mem usage is around 30 MB. This is when MP both on the server and client is watching TV in windowed mode. Is the difference between Pentium4 and Celeron that big? Does anyone have any ide about this?

The CPU usage of the tv-server service is about 50%, is that normal?
