I would like to use a wifi (radio) or BT interface remote controller for the HTPC on which I would want to install Mediaportal as it will be mounted in a wooden cabinet (therefore no IR possible)
The controller will also be necessary for the TV ,HD recorder, etc
Is this possible

Sure. Between the WifiRemote (http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/17_Extensions/3_Plugins/WifiRemote) plugin and MPExtended (http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/17_Extensions/Remote_Access/MPExtended) you should be able to find the back-end support for what you're looking to do. As for the remote itself, you can either implement something of your own against WifiRemote/MPExtended, or try an app like aMPdroid (http://wiki.team-mediaportal.com/1_MEDIAPORTAL_1/17_Extensions/Mobile/aMPdroid), which is quite excellent and just might meet your needs out of the box.

Hi thanks,I think in view of costs and complexity the IR extender will do perfectly now all I need is to choose the right combination.

Another option, that I am in the process of setting up myself, is using EventGhost in combination with either reYmote for Android or alventGhost for Android. Either of those android apps can be setup with custom built "remotes" and send commands to EventGhost over wifi. Once received by EventGhost, those commands can be mapped to do basically anything, including controlling MediaPortal AND sending IR commands with WinLIRC to physical devices.

Right now I am setting this up with my old Samsung captivate using reYmote, EventGhost, and WinLIRC. I am using my MCE usb receiver as the emitter for my tv and amplifier. This setup will completely replace every remote in my house when I am done.

If you aren't afraid of a little work, I think this could prove to be very handy for you. Just my $0.02 (or €0.02, which ever you prefer) ;)

    Hope that helps!

    Hello steve,
thanks but I may be one of the few people on earth who doesn't have any modern tablet/phone or other android capable device and I don't want to start a learning curve for it now.thanks anyway.I have an old (very big win ce) mobile phone which is basically for emergencies and that's the way I like it,old fashioned and proud of it.!!
The only reason I am going to a HTPC is that there are so many devices we have collected over the years )cassette recorder-player,VHS,sound system and and and) and so many remotes I just want to make it simple, the KISS motto.
