I need to use the TV server in order to record programs for later viewing. I've established a Schedules Direct account and installed the XmlTV plugin but have not been able to download a schedule. Perhaps I'm missing a step. What is the procedure for downloading a Schedules Direct schedule and using it to schedule recordings?

In the instructions that you pointed me to it speaks of "guide configuration" in the TV Server Configuration. But my software doesn't have anything marked "guide configuration." I realize that what I need to do is use something to tell the TV Server software where it needs to look in order to find the TV program listings. But I don't know how to do this since I can't find "guide configuration." Is there some other command or prompt than I'm overlooking? I verified that I was able to download the much needed schedule information from Schedules Direct. This part seems to work like a charm. For this I thank you! Now getting the schedule into TV Server so that I can command it to record is my biggest problem. Hopefully you might help me get the downloaded schedule into the TV Server software.:D

O.K. I assume you are running MP 1.0.2, not sure what, if anything, is different with 1.1 beta 1

    • Startup the 'TVserver configuration'
    • goto plugin "XmlTv" (make sure the XmlTv plugin box is checked) & select the folder with the Tvguide.xml
    • goto tab 'mappings'
    • select your 'Group'
    • press 'load/refresh'
    • In the list box you now get your 'channels' with drop down boxes to map which channel content maps to which channel in TVguide.xml
    • When finished selecting all channels press 'Save'
    • Verify the correct selections by pressing 'load/refresh' again (all boxes should now be white)
    • Go back to the 'settings' tab & press 'import': you should see your number of channels and a lot of programs importing (after a few seconds)
    • close 'TVserver configuration'
    • start MP and enjoy

You don't want to use the Schedules Direct Plugin?

"the SchedulesDirect plugin crashes and says its supposed to be run from inside the TV server setup (which is where I run it from) but I see it hasn't been updated since 2007 so I assume its a dead project
    "

I personally have never tried it because I do not have an account but I was under the impression that it had died also…

No, its alive and well. I think the original dev dropped it but someone else picked it up. For MP version 1.0.2 you need to get a later version than the one listed on the first page of that post. Look towards the end of the thread. I think page 48 or something.
