How do i preserve settings & databases during upgrade (1 Viewer)

When i recently upgraded from RC2 to RC4 i lost all my settings & the database content for Moving Picture & MP-TV Series.

When i update to future releases, is there any way to preserve these settings, especially the databases, as this also lost the 'watched' tags on any previously viewed episodes.
