How does Hauppauge PVR (150/350/500) manage widescreen? (1 Viewer)

My STB sometimes outputs 4:3 and sometimes 16:9, but the Hauppauge PVR-cards hars only 4:3 frame sizes in setup -> television -> capture cards

What resolution is 16:9 captured in? Or is it ever captured in 16:9 or just cropped 4:3?

Using the "zoom modes" gives poor quality. (Particularly in fast moving pictures like football).

Any help and advice is highly appreciated!

    EDIT:
    Read this: http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=7143&page=2

So PAL is always in "4:3" - then zoomed/aspect controlled? How come this can be done so easily and good with a TV and a computer can not do this?

I too would love someone to shed some light onto this topic if possible. I am currently playing with MP because one of the things I hated about MCE was that I had to keep switching aspect ratios between cards as my Hauppauge can only capture at 4:3.

I thought MP might have some way to auto-crop or automatically change the aspect ratio for specific channels. Surely there are quite a few people out there who capture STB inputs at 4:3. What do you do? Are there any cards that capture at 16:9?

Analog 4:3 and 16:9 are the same resolution (Such as 720x576 for pal), only displayed differently.
I don't think s-video/composite interfaces have aspect ratio information, so there is in fact no way for an analog PVR card (Or especially MP above it) to know the AR.
