Hello to all,
I'm sure this is a silly question but I cannot find a way to burn a recorded TV show to DVD within MediaPortal.

I would like to clear up some of my HD space. Can anyone offer me advice?

Thank you!

:D

AW: How To Burn Recorded TV to a DVD within MediaPortal?

Never tried it myself, but there is a"Burner" plugin that you an activate in the MP Config section. I assume that this will give you the functionality that you are looking for.

Unfortunately, it doesnt. It just lets you point to a file on your harddrive, but it seems the Recorded TV format is not supported.

I'm still looking for a way to create a DVD from recorded TV too, but it seems it cannot be done from within MP itself

So I guess the hassling with transcoding and stuff with external tools is unavoidable. Or... could it be possible?

not aware of any way to do this within MP but are you talking about ust moving the recordings across to a data DVD or about converting the TS recordings into DVD format so they will play on a normal DVD player?

Yeah I would like to just convert them into native video DVD format (like all standalone hdd recorders with dvd can do).

I use VideoReDo TVSuite. It isn't free, but it gives me "one-stop-shopping", and I'm happy to say it works very well. You simply open the .ts file, make your edits, and burn the DVD -- it's very straightforward. (Note the original .ts file is not changed, it is just provides the source data for the project.)

The reason I was willing to pay for the software is that my father wanted to learn how to do it. It was fairly easy to teach him to do it on his own, and subsequently this has saved me lots of "tech support" time.

However if you have enough computer skills to get MediaPortal working for recording TV shows, you are quite capable of burning DVDs of these shows for free. The catch is it takes at least 2, and maybe 3, different applications to accomplish this; it's a multi-stage process.

Locating and testing the various freeware programs for each stage took a few evenings, but I did come up with a satisfactory solution. (Sorry, the names of these apps have faded from memory.) I would have kept that setup had it been just for me, but it wasn't a solution I wanted to teach (and re-teach...) to my father over the phone.

VideoReDo had a free trial which was fully functional for some time period. If they still have that, I strongly recommend trying it out before you embark on the freeware approach.
