hi,

my tv series has a strange behaviour. sometimes when I come to it, it says "no data" (or something like that) - i.e. no series showing at all. I wait a few minutes, or click away to something else such as live tv, then click back, and some of the series have come back. I wait quite a lot of minutes , eventually they all come back. I am failrly sure its doing a full import of everything at this point in time, including talking to tvdb.com which can be a little slow. I have no problem with imports per se , I have a bunch of series that all import fine.

what I'm trying to avoid is ever going to the tv series screen and seeing "nothing". not good when the 3 yr old is demanding to watch "Bob the Builder" and there is nothing there! I notice that the date on my tvseriesdatabase file is usually "now", even if I haven't added any files for a while. Is there some auto refresh or auto cleanup option that I can turn off? I am quite happy to go into MP config to do imports/deletes/etc, if that means stability when I use the MP front end itself.

I've only been using this plugin a few weeks so apologies if this is a blatant noob question...
thanks
Ian

It sounds like you have your files on a network share and when you start MediaPortal its not ready. TVSeries thinks since the network share is not available, the files have been removed hence they get deleted from the database. When the share becomes available again, they get re-imported.

There is definitely room for improvement on how the plugin handles this...but there is a few options you can try. In Configuration there is an option in General settings 'Keep reference to files that are no longer on computer', try enabling that. This will force you to manually remove files you no longer have though.

Typically you should not have this problem, ensure your network / chipset drivers are up to date as this can defintely cause issues. A few other tips:

    * You should also try using a network share by IP address
    * Remove DHCP from your computer and put in a static IP
    * Do not power down network interface on standby

thanks. yes you are correct, the files are on a network share, accessed by unc mapping. its likely that tv series will be the first app to access the share if its the first item in MP that I select after coming out of standby.
    I will try those suggestions.

    regards,
    Ian

I made 3 changes based on damien's suggestions
    within tv series cfg
-enabled "Keep reference to files that are no longer on computer"
    - disabled "refresh info every 12hrs from online db"
    within lan card config
    - disabled powerdown
-enabled WOL (to keep card active even when computer asleep)

no need for static ip addressing.

now, I don't see the problem. Not sure which was the fix!
