How to prevent automatic deletion of recordings? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

What will happen when the quota limit defined in "Television->Recording->Disk Quota" is reached?
Which recording will be deleted?
Can I prevent this automatic deletion? I really prefer MP will fail in recording rather than unexpectedly deleting my recordings.
What are these plugins "TV Diskspace", "TV Episodes Cleanup", "TV Recordings Cleanup"? Are they related to this issue?

Unknown by me, but at a guess the oldest.

A disk space low warning has been one of the requested features, would always recommend compressing valuable recordings, and backing up to DVD or external HD, whichever preferred.

The other plugins are related to TV cleanup of recordings\schedules, but do not overcome the problem you have.

If you go to the settings of recorded shows or settings in scheduled shows there are a couple of options there.
One is "Keep Until" which is set to "Space Needed" by default.
For things you don't want to ever be deleted, you can change this setting to "Always".

You can also set in "Episodes Management" the number of episodes of a series that you want to keep. This can help prevent running out of space.

Thanks. I'll try this keep "Always" thing.
I would still prefer if this feature of automatic deletion could be disabled. Are you guys saying this is currently impossible? If so, I will write a feature request.

I see this option for schedualed shows. How do I do it for already recorded shows?

I'm not sure if it is possible for already recorded shows.

The issue here though is that if you don't want shows to be deleted when the hard disk space runs out then the PC will crash or become unstable if new shows cannot be recorded.

I guess the principal here is that if you are going to allow the hard drive to fill up then it's better to lose old shows than not have new ones recorded.

I think there is also a plugin that deals with the deletion and maybe turning that off will stop the process. I'm recording now, so can't go into setup to check.

Bigger HD's help, Marcusb will most probably agree as with any setup, unfortunately a bit of manual tidying up, never goes amiss.

As with any FILE of value, as with a pc you cannot over emphasise how important it is to back up IMPORTANT files, so might be worth trying the Video Editor plugin for removing commercials and compressing, very much a must have feature.

These are part of the CORE pvr functions that are set to run inside the TV part of MP, TV Diskspace controls automatic deletion of recorded programs once the HDD gets full, TV Episodes and Recordings Cleanup look after your recordings and can be set to erase after watching (setup\TV \recording) or with MP running TV\Recorded clean-up, as these are pretty self explantory, no documentation has been written up as of today's date.
