Hi

I would like to say well done to everyone who contributed to create Mediaportal... You rock!

I bought a commercial media player... it sucked and the firmware was wrong...

I sent it back and bought a HTPC after seeing what mediaportal can do ... wow! I like its functionality and flexibility especially with the streamed MP skin

Getting to the point...

I have a brand new installation XP SP3
Latest Mediaportal copy
Using a Kworld PE355-2t dual channel PCIE DVB-t tv Card pro
Out of the box comes with software Total Media 3.5
Installed SQL server (SQL express) Microsoft SQL server 2005 that was a mission (tried mySQL with same results) BTW logged in at the test on install (after I had to reinstall it 10 times before I found out I had to install SQLNCLI.msi first)
Configured TV server and added cards to the hybrid section

Total media detects channels and shows TV, records, plays etc


Media Portal will detect channels and does the time shift thing but then does NOT do much else


On preview (in tv server) it crashes
In the app it stalls (shows channels but says they are not available


I have attempted uninstalling Total Media
Reinstalled the tv server at least 10 times
Tried MySQL
Researched, researched, researched

I would prefer not to use Total Media for TV and like everything about mediaportal but am having a little frustration in completing this final part


Your Help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Hi and welcome Kot! Nice to have another Aussie trying MP.

First, *thank you* for posting full logs - it is really nice not to have to ask for them.

Can you be a little more specific here please. If timeshifting works then recording and all the other functions should work (maybe you mean timeshifting in TV Server manual control section?). Preview in TV Server may well not work unless you have appropriate codecs installed and the codec merits on your system are set correctly. I do suspect codec issues in MP as well as it doesn't look like you've set your codec preferences in MP configuration (make sure to do both video and TV). I always advise people starting out with codecs and/or MP to test channels *in* MP rather than with TV Server preview unless you understand codec merits. Further than that though, I honestly don't see what is going wrong, so a little elaboration would be appreciated.

1. I have a dolby 5.1 decoder amp ($100 dollars from Cashies!) .. any ideas how to configure for this>?
2. Also the EPG is not populating.... any ideas what is going wrong there?

3rd question unrelated.. do you know of any any third party software to reconfigure a microsoft remote control.. I want to change some of the buttons?

Did you setup the epg grabber?

I have no Phone so MCE is for me... ordering new remote as I think the one I have that came with kworld is not a microsoft one... some of the buttons do weird things

does mediaportal have the ability to decode dolby digital 5.1?

As DieBagger said, you can use key mapping (or something like EventGhost) to reassign the functions of the buttons, so in some ways it doesn't matter what remote you use. Your choice though.

Awesome thus far!

I have a Vista Mediaportal TV client and want it to be able to watch telly

when I enable TV in the config the menu "Load window plugin takes forever
and when clicking on TV it lags to the point of an apparent crash (I do not wait around forever)

Do I need windows SQL server or is mySQL ok on Vista machine?
Do I need to enable firewall settings on the server or the client?

Is this the reason for the slowness/crash?

BTW is running on WIFI laptop

I am utilising StreamedMP skin and am getting an error when trying to use the plugin Streamradio

Some kind of xml error... any ideas about this... where do I repoint this to get it to work or is a question to take to "the creator" of the plugin (god I assume, cos its fantasimagorical)


Note: I do not have this problem with the Default Blue/wide blue skins

It seems that Streamradio is not supported by StreamedMp, have you tried Radiotime? (It's supported by streamedmp and is similar in functionality)

Regarding the other issue, yeah it seems that the client can't connect to the servers database (unfortunately there is still a direct db-connection from the client, old baggage)... Try to disable the firewall for testing or to enter the ip instead of the hostname (Venus).
