For that reason I'd say logs for what happens when you're trying to make a recording (along with brief instructions describing how you're attempting to start the recording, because there are many ways to do that) would be helpful, as would logs for testing the analog cable channels (in some cases analog is *much* trickier to set up and test than you might think).
