I figured having a karaoke player would be a great idea. I don't know much about programming, but i think it could be a good idea. If it could support .mp3 + .cdg files and regular .avi, .mpeg etc. The .mp3 + .cdg (mp3g) format is brilliant actually, and is easy to access. I've tried it with the player KaraFun, and there is also plugins/codecs which makes WMP support these files.
A typical example is a .mp3 file like "CCR - Bad Moon Rising.mp3" and also the "CCR - Bad Moon Rising.cdg" (They must have the same name) where the mp3 file takes about 3-5 MB and the cdg file takes 1,5 MB. Many players also supports these files compressed in a .zip file which reduces the total size to about the size of the mp3 file total.
Further, i guess the already integrated media player could do the trick with some kind of a plugin. And for the visual part, browse it like you would browse your music collection, just having the track title and "As made famous by: Creedence Clearwater Revival" for example.
Well, i'm just throwing it out there for the ppl who maybe have what it takes to make this happen and others with ideas. Karaoke is always a hit on parties, and kids love it too. Should be a part of a complete media center.
