Import data from different tv recorder into MP db (1 Viewer)

I'm migrating from SageTV and I'd like to migrate all the history of watched shows into MP so that I can schedule series and not worry that old episodes will fill the disk space.
I haven't found much documentation on the database schema for the tv server although it doesn't look too complicated. Any suggestions or guidelines to import "watched" shows data?

What format does sage tv record in? You will only be able to import ts files. You will need to create an XML file per recording (see format of a recording made by MP)

If you want to import other files you will be better off importing into video section.

SageTV records in mpg format but what I'm more interested than importing the actual records is importing my "watched" history. I'm actually not even sure MP has such concept. For each scheduled show, I'd like to only record the episodes I haven't already seen.
