Importing from DVD Profiler Done. How to link to movies via URLs in bulk? (1 Viewer)

I managed to import the DVD Profiler information into MF, of course none of the URLs are loaded since DVD Profiler does not contain such information. I am just beginning to rip my DVD collection to the hard disk, to say, D:\Movies\Movie 1\Movie Name.IFO, etc. Can MF or ANT then scan through the hard disk directory and match the movies in the MF/ANT database with the file locations in bulk (some script perhaps)? I have over 1,000 titles, so it would be very time-consuming to enter file location one title at a time. Any suggestion or comment is appreciated.

Cheers,
Jaz

To get the URL locations from DVDprofiler they must be loaded into the "Notes" field however if you haven't been doing this, it won't really help you with your 1000s of titles now.

To automatically scan your directories and have them loaded into Mediaportal, you may want to look at the plugin called Moving Pictures which is similar in some ways to My Films but intead scans named paths to build it's catalogue of movies automically rather than using an external calalogue technique like My Films.

That said, I use My Film in conjunction with DVD profiler.

Sorry but no need to use the Notes field !
You only have to give same name as the movie title to your filenames or directories for DVD copy.

    I Have A Workaround

I tried Moving Pictures but did not have much luck with it, for some weird reasons, most of the covers were missing, so I got tired of it pretty quickly. In addition, it is not possible to browse by genre, year, etc. like My Films. Since I have all my data in DVD Profiler already, it also seems redundant to rescan and pull the information off the Net all over again. So My Films is a better choice for me.

After playing with the Import/Export functions with AMC, I think it will be pretty simple to automate the process as zebons suggested - just make the file names the same as the movie titles, I could do this in Excel with the Concatenate function, e.g., Concantenate ("Z:\Movies\";cell;"\VIDEO_TS.IFO"), where cell refers to the movie title. Now I just have to rip those darn DVDs to disk, oh joy!

I have a similar problem, althou i got everything imported properly and I also got the plugin to locate and mount the ISO files i have created stored all in one directory with the "translatedtitle.ISO" the problem comes when i try to play the movie, i can see that daemon Tools mount the ISO but it will not start to play it. I have to go back and into the ordinary "my movies" and start the dvd from there....

Did you try VOB or IFO

For a test, instead of ISO image, could you play VOB or IFO file? Is ripping to ISO faster or preferred for some reason?

I prefer to rip to ISO as it looks cleaner and are easier to move around if need be.
I have not tried playing vob or ifo files will give it a try and see

    P.S.
Is it possible to assosciate several files with a specific title for example some DVD's contain more then one disc and these are stored after this naming sequens:
    "movie title" - disc 1.ISO
    "movie title" - disc 1.ISO
and so forth, the most I have is 3 isos taken from 2 physicle discs, as the original is dual sided....

I don't think what you are trying to do is possible according to this thread: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/my-films-164/issue-multipart-iso-files-52435/

    STuNZ,

Could you elaborate on this MyFilms / DVDProfiler setup. The plugin page is heavy with ANT verbiage, no mention of DVDProfiler.
At this point I'm becoming a little gun shy with skins and plugins.

My flix are cataloged in DVD/P. I did an export/import last night which went well with the exception that the ISO's wont mount and run. I have since tried changing from VCD to Daemon Tools Lite and VLC to the internal player. This works. It just not what I want:mad:

Now I need to (regularly) sync DVD/P with MP.

I actually have five computers; Alpha, Beta, RC, Stable and Operational.
My Alpha box doesn't necessarily get Alpha warez on it, just "Alpha" in my mind, never tested in my environs, etc.
The "Stable" box get most of the workouts. The Op box is my true (wife-friendly) HTPC.
At this point I am simply getting all the pieces ready for a HTPC rollout this weekend:D

    Any thoughts? TIA- td

I have been using DVD profiler as my matster catalogue for DVD for years and historically when using Windows Media Center had been exporting the DVD catalogue to their "MyMovies" plugin. For it to be aware of the location of the various movies on my server I had to populate the "notes" field in DVD profiler with the location of each movie/tv series. This required an "export" from DVD Profiler and "import" from My Movies for each change in my movie collection.

When I transitioned to MediPortal I started using the "My Films" plugin due to it's ability to import DVD profiler catalog information in much the same way MyMovies had done for me with media centre. However it still requires an export from DVD Profiler for each change in my movie collection. (but no import, yay)

Using the DVD profiler export in the "My Films" plugin is relatively simple.
    1) Export a catalog from DVD profiler to say c:\collection.xml,
    2) Configure the "My films plugin to use DVD profiler in the "Catalog Type" drop down on it's first screen of the plugin cofiguration.
    3) Define the location of the DVD profiler export in the "Catalog File(XML)" field
    4) Define the location of your DVD profiler images directory in the "Picture PAtch (IMG) field.
If your file naming of the movies matches the DVD profiler movie names:
    5) Populate the "Movies for file search" path.
If they don't or they are spread across multiple volumes/servers you have the popluate the notes field of each move in DVD profiler with the movie location and
    5) Check the :Notes field comtains movie name on the DVD profiler tab page on the "My Films" plugin config.

All my movies have been copied from DVD to a VIDEO_TS file structure but I notice your are ISO file but the principles are the same. eg/ if my file location for a movie is \\server1\dvd_b\butterfly effect\video_ts\video_ts.ifo then my notes field is \\server1\dvd_b\butterfly effect. Or if the movie name is "butterfly effect" and the movie location is \\server1\dvd_b\butterfly effect, then just make sure your search path is \\server1 with "include sub folders" checked.

All that said, this made sense for me as I already had populated the notes field of DVD profiler with my movie locations.

I have now changed over to using "Moving Pictures" due to it having automated fanart and better UI responsiveness, (love that async fade in). I kind of miss the depth and accuracy of the DVDprofiler metadata over what the Moving pictures scrapers give but you can't have everything.
