Just a little word to let you know that I was able to use the Infrared receiver and remote control of WindowsMediaCenter without installing any drivers... so cool.

now I just wish I could use my built in infra red receiver on my Toshiba Satllite M40X, instead of plugging-in the big thing on the usb port.

I have installed the dirvers for my Toshiba and the readme file starts with this reference:

SMSC IrCC NDIS Miniport Device Driver Version 5.1.3600.5 SP2
Installation Utility r1.01 Readme File
Target Hardware: SMSC IrCC (Infrared Communications Controller)
in SMSC I/O chip embedded on motherboard

If anyone knows how to use the WMC remote with this infra red receiver, i'd love to know how you did that. Oh and BTW, are there any other remote that would run on it??

thanks

Google seems to show very little about remote use with IRCC. One PDF did say it was possible (in too much technical jargon) but Id be very sceptical. If it does work, it wont work as a MCE remote so youll loose a lot of functions.

If just pointing at it and using the remote as normal doesnt work, Id probably guess it wont.
