MediaPortal Version: V0.2.3.0 RC1
MediaPortal Skin: default
Windows Version: xp pro sp2
[Sound Card: emu 0404
Sound Card AC3: emu 0404
Sound Card Driver:
MPEG2 Video Codec: ffdshow
MPEG2 Audio Codec: ffdshow
Remote: streamzap + girder

I seldom get sound when trying to play avis. There was a problem with the remote's volume buttons setting the windows wave volume to 0 but even after setting it to max there continued to be no sound. Sometimes there are click sounds when navigating mp. Once in a while sound will work when playing a video. I'm really at a loss.

    Hello hifire,

have you tried other codecs ? Are you using a mediasplitter (Haali) because you need non-english audio ?

I tried the nero decoder and one other, both resulted in no sound.

I didn't install the mediasplitter on purpose and I don't see it in add/remove programs so I don't think so.

Well do you NEED non-english audio ? I don't know which language you speak. Have you tried the integrated codecs (dscaler / MPV) ?

    I don't need non-english audio no. I'll try dscaler.

I was able to resolve the problem by using a default config in the emu's patchmix software.

    I've got more problems.

After I seek in a video now, the sound doesn't resume.
Sound cuts out midway through playback.
Playback changes speed randomly, when playing mp3's and video.

I'm going to try out my av-710 and see if I have better luck with that. Maybe it's the emu-0404 that's the source of all these problems.

So far MediaPortal and the av710 are playing nicely together. There seem to be some issues with the emu0404 and MP.

Try reinstalling the driver (see if there is a newer one) had some similar problems with my Audigy4 screwing up the playing of various video files.
