International titles? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

First I really want to praise this incredible plug-in. I only just found it, but it has already changed the way I use MediaPortal.

There is one thing I'm wondering about though; international titles. I have a lot of movies which is listed with the non-english original title on IMDB. This is very confusing when using Moving Pictures. For example, "Spirited Away" lists as "Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi". Is there any way to make Moving Pictures use the international title?

Ofcourse it's possible to change all the titles manually, which I have done ofcourse. But if it could be automated it would save a lot of time

We plan on adding automatic selection of alternate titles a configuration option in a future release.

Ah, alright, thank you for your response. To be honest I hadn't looked through the project page :sorry: I guess I should've been able to figure out that this topic had already been brought up. Great, I'm looking forward to future releases.

I just remembered a user modified the IMDB scraper script in the past to grab only english titles. Allthough his version might be outdated now you can try to make your own modification and pull your english titles already

fforde, have you considered the option to show 2 titles? Thats usefull for foreigner users. Most movies have a different title in different countrys. While i like to keep the original title i also need the local title.

Currently i'm changing every movie title to "Translated movie name (Original movie name)". But that results in a very BIG title. That whould be cool and option to a new field for a second title. Example of the interface:

Translated Movie name
Original Movie name

That's a good idea Tmac, perhaps implemented only for movies where the original title is not in the native language of the user. I added a comment to the issue for title localization so we don't forget about the suggestion.

just quick note. This future would be realy great. But please make it optional which title is more important. Becouse as i see it in skin one title will be bigger and another one will be smaller. Now what i want is that english title is the main one and local title is smaller one. But i bet that someone will want in oposite. So it would be great that we can set in config which title is title no.1 and which is no.2. Hope i was clear enough

That's a good idea Tine but it's basically the same as the very last suggestion posted in this thread before you. We have made a note about it in the issue thread so when we work on the issue we will make sure we provide both the original and translated title to the skin so they can be displayed however the skinner chooses.

I wasn't clear enoguh. I just wanted to point out that it should be user decision which title is which and not skinner. So skinner sets position for title1 and title2. And then i decide in config which is which. So i can select that title1 is original title, aka1, aka2, ... and same for title2.

I would select title1 is english and title2 is slovenian translation
Some german user would use title1 is german translation and title2 is original title
And english user would use title1 - original and title2 - working title.


Hope i cleared what i ment
