I have some knowledge of how to register codecs etc.
I am trying to use Media Portal for my 'wife friendly' media solution, however I am not satisfied with the DVD playback performance when using Media Portal.
If I use Intervideo winDVD 8 to play back a DVD the video quality is excellent.
If I use Media Portal configured to use Intervideo codec for DVD playback, the video quality is not similar. Appear jerky during high motion etc.

I have noticed the same behaviour when selecting other codecs such as FFDShow, NVIDIA etc. I went to the point of deregistering all codecs except codec being tested. No change. ?

my expectation is that if in Media Portal I select Intervideo codes for playback, that the performance should match that if I play back direct with windDVD? Obviously I am missing something?
(My preference is to use Media Portal as the player as I have finally mapped all my remote keys.. somethng winDVD does not suport)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Since WinDVD uses the video overlay mode, and MediaPortal uses VMR9 mode, then MediaPortal sould be better - have you "unselected" the option "Turn off DxVA" in the DVD section of MediaPortal Setup?

I have tried your suggestion above. It still has the same poor performance, compared to playing directly with winDVD. I am currently rebuilding a fresh install of XP with only winDVD and Media Center to ensure that I am actually using Intervideo codec with Media Player. I am not confident Media Center is actually using the codec I have selected in SETUP.

I've been having jerky TV and am suspecting it's something to do with the NVidia drivers. I was reading another thread where it mentioned vsync as an NVidia driver parameter that fixed his jerky video... any thoughts?

I rebuilt my system and now my jerky video issues are resolved with Intervideo (and others)
I do suspect however that my issues may have been due to the fact that use VRM 9 exclusive mode was turned off.
(Media portal setup->DirectShow Filter Control->Video Mixing Renderer)
