Hello,

Can I, if I have a IR receiver behind a polyethylene / plastic plate of about ~1cm thick, use any IR remote control correctly? Or will I often get a bad reception?

I would surely like to know that before I purchase an IR remote control ... I also spotted some RF remotes, like the Conceptronic CLLRCMCE, but after some research it seems those don't fully work with Mediaportal.

Thanks in advance.

I think it won't work that well. It's a physics question and it kinda depends on the material.
Different materials affect different wavelengths of light, so I guess judging from your startpost (no specifics) it's anybodies guess.

btw you can get almost every remote, be it RF or IR, working with MP. How succesful you are with getting them to work the way you want it kinda depends.
Ever heard of a little program called eventghost? It can handle loads of HID based remotes.
I use a Logitech UltraX media remote (which software wise is really a piece of crap, drivers) and it works pretty good. I do lose the drivers on windows startup from time to time but that's a complete different story (logitech :()
