I finally have MP 1.0 / TVServer 1.0 working at about 90% in conjunction with my set top box via the Schedules Direct plugin, the IRSS plugin, and the TV3 Blaster Patch. Many thanks to the writers of each plugin, and rekenaar who was very diligent on helping me to get it all setup! I really think there should be something in the MP documentation about setting MP up with a STB. Its a very confusing undocumented process which requires the user to search all over the place, and in my case try out suggestions that were very outdated and no longer applicable to the new versions of the plug ins and MP.
Now I am moving onto getting my MCE certified Gyration RF remote setup and working. I know several others have requested that this remote be supported in MP and the IRSS plugin. I am sure there are many more who have the same request, but have not posted. Hopefully a solution can be found and we can point these users to this thread. The remote itself is very cool. Its motion sensitive, allowing the user to wave the remote around in the air and have it act like an air mouse or Nintendo Wii controller, giving full windows functionality from your couch. They even offer an application that allows you to use the numeric keypad to type letters, like you would do while typing a text message on your cellphone.
The issue is that this is an RF remote, not an IR remote. It would not be possible to have the “air mouse” functionality of the remote with an IR setup. Due to this, it does not seem to be 100% compatible with the IRSS plugin. I did have the remote working fairly well in MP by selecting a HID device as my remote in the main MP configuration. The majority of the buttons did function, such as the media controls, the arrow keys, volume, and the numeric keypad. However, once the IRSS plugin was installed, I lost almost all functionality, with only the arrow keys and numeric keypad still working. I have found a few other posts scattered around this forum regarding this remote. You can get nearly full functionality of the remote by using EventGhost. However, this requires that “General HID” is checked in the main MP configuration under “Remotes”. The TV3 Blaster requires that no remotes are checked in the main MP configuration. You can see the dilemma.
Part of the IRSS/TV3 Blaster plug-in is the “MP Control Plug-in for IR Server” under the main MP Config-->Plug-ins-->Process Plug-ins. This is where the confusing part begins. It would seem like if “General HID” was one of the options for remote selection, it would be pretty straight forward to get this working by utilizing EventGhost. There is a “template” option. However, being very new to this entire thing, I have no idea what I am supposed to do in this section. If anyone has some beginner tips on how to get started here it would be great. I am going to try and send Aaron a PM with a link to this thread, praying that he has time to chime in. I am not sure if that can happen as it appears his real-life obligations are keeping him quite busy at this time. If anyone, anyone at all has played around in this section, please post up with any directions/tip you feel might be helpful. In the mean time, I will try and play around with it and post up my findings here!
