I have a 2003 Hauppauge WinTV 28552 Rev. 123 NTSC/NTSC-J analog TV & FM card.
Some internet discussion groups reference these cards as either "Roslyn" or "Black Bird."
It uses a "Roslyn" revision 1 Conexant CX23880/CX23416 chip set to perform hardware
digital encoding from analog inputs.
I downloaded Hauppauge site's Win XP drivers for it and installed them.
Windows XP Driver Manager page shows this card installed with no "?" mark
listing all of the following:
Hauppauge WinTV 88x Audo
Hauppauge WinTV 88x Crossbar
Hauppauge WinTV 88x MPG Engoder (28xxx)
Hauppauge WinTV 88x Tuner
Hauppauge WinTV 88x Video (MPEG+Front).
My freshly installed Media Portal Setup recognizes it as one Capture Card naming it
"Hauppauge PVR 250BTV", Friendly name = card1, Television = True, Recording = True
But when connected to our house analog Cable TV feed, I'm not seeing any TV images
nor any available channels listed from Media Portal.
Question 1: Does Media Portal currently support these cards?
Question 2: Does Media Portal include an automatic TV channel scan function?
I've read that this card is supported by Beyond TV, Sage TV and MCE, though I have
not tried any of them yet. I just want to know if I should abandon Media Portal
and try one of the other software interfaces for use with this TV/FM card.
Thanks for any useful suggestions,
John
Update --
I had downloaded Hauppauge drivers months ago and wrongly assumed they would be adequate.
I revisited the Hauppauge web site, found their link to update their drivers and ran that program.
That program ran very smoothly, finding, deleting and replacing each file. It ran for more than a minute,
then announced that it had successfully completed updating. Nice to see feedback like that.
I still don't know if Media Portal includes an automatic scan function, but I succeeded in manually
adding the first 35 analog channels from this cable feed. Then I checked to make sure they were
all working properly. Channels 2 through 11 come in beautifully. But channels 12 and higher aren't
displayed. So I need to change how channel numbers above 11 are assigned. Settings like that
for VCRs have been pretty obvious for at least 25 years now. Yet I didn't see that selection screen
in the setup program.
