is there anyway that I can make my remote start MP? (1 Viewer)

I am using the Hauppauge 1600 tv card with remote and the remote can turn off the TV I am wondering if there is a way for me to change or add on to the remote configuration so I can turn it on using it also adding some other features to my remote . at the bottom of my remore controller there are four different coloured buttons I tha tare empty that I would like to add to. but being very new to this HTPC world I would need a little help even if it is a point in the right direction so I can figure this out.
