Before I get to know the project better I'd like to know if what I want can be done and if it can be done by an average user like myself.
So here it goes: We're getting a new house and I'd like to have a DVB-S solution in the basement and stream TV into various rooms (to a TV set, not a PC).
The DVB-S signal comes from the roof into the basement, there I can have a multiplexxer and PC and a NAS. From there I have a LAN to the other rooms.
I need to have 2 satellites (Astra and Hotbird) and use 2 or 3 smartcards (ORF and Italian Tivu Sat, maybe one day HD+).
This is what I know, the rest I don't really know- what PC, what OS, what TVs. Since I need to buy all the stuff I am open to anything- of course not too expensive.
Can you tell me if this works- watching TV with a DLNA TV and remote controlling the equipment in the basement?
If so, what should I buy?

TV Server uses RTSP for streaming TV to the clients. Clients browse local filesystem folders or connect directly to network shares or FTP folders when accessing video and audio files. For that reason I don't think MP would be suitable for your setup. If you were using PCs instead of TVs then it would be a different story...

Regarding your TV requirements: TV Server currently supports DiSEqC 4 port switches, so accessing multiple satellites is not a problem. Certain tuners with CI slots are supported. You can find out more about the tuners that we support here if you're still interested...
