    True, basically.
unfortunately your hardware is not really suitable for h265 hevc
I wouldn't recommend this resolution with a 650, but I have tried 4k with a 640gt ... 4k@h264 was perfectly, hevc with low bitrate too but software decoding with high bitrate hevc stuff makes no real sense and is very weak...
so back to ya problem, as i guessed your movie really is a hevc 10bit+ hdr and all very high quality. the tv episode is a tiny low bitrate file so that software decode will be enough...
    Overall bit rate : 416 kb/s
but not with the higher quality stuff like the alita file...
    Overall bit rate : 15.5 Mb/s

btw. your mphc version is very old, it didn't even had fully integrate lav back then.

@SpudR: Fair enough, I may be looking for a new card in the near future. But then why am I able to watch the TV episode om MP, but not the movie?

Never mind, my screen just refreshed with the answer. ^_^

@DaWookie: I know, and yet it still handled the x265 movie better than an up-to-date MP. Go figure.

    Get a GT 1030
It'll play all but the most HQ movies ;)
    < £70 :D

GeForce GTX 1650 if you want to play the HQ stuff...
    About £150

So the GT 1030 is ~AU$120 and the GTX 1650 ~AU$260 (based on my local store). Which, surprisingly for Australia, is just about bang-on the conversion rate. :) Cheers.
