KFA2 Galaxy 8600GT Low Profile HTPC Video Card NIB - eBay (item 300281344998 end time Dec-23-08 09:45:52 PST)

Low-profile, 256mb DDR3, PCIe x16, NIB

New in box, free shipping to US.

Fastest nVidia slim-line video card you can find. Ended up sticking with the IGP in my build. nVidia Linux drivers make this excellent for MythTV, Boxee or LinuxMCE. Also powerful enough to run MediaPortal or Vista MediaCenter with ease (DirectX 10 Compatible). Comes with two low profile brackets, driver cd, manual...etc.

Great this would add some gaming performance for my upcoming low profile build. I wonder how noisy that fan would be and if there are any ATI alternatives in Performance in low profile?

Haha...that was my intention with buying it, but I realized I never actually used that system for gaming, and my HTPC was working fine with the IGP...I had ruled out ATI from the very beginning because of the fact that their linux support is spotty at best, and I wanted to leave my options open, as I'm not fully committed to MediaPortal at this point...

My search showed that there really weren't many good low-profile cards available (odd, when you consider that laptops are getting pretty good GPUs these days). Everyone that had this card said that the fan was definitely louder than the system fans in their low profile machines, but was barely noticeable when sitting on the couch...If your system is already a cool runner, you can always decrease the speed a bit too...
