Kids must spend credits to watch a show? (1 Viewer)

I have a "manual" system at my house right now. The kids get 1 token a day. Each token equals 30 minutes of tv. If they do something extra or deserve a special reward, they might get an extra token. If they want to watch a movie on Saturday, they need to save up 4 tokens.

This is working okay since we have the v-chip enabled and the kids have not hacked the password (yet!).

How hard would it be to have an option that did this automatically? Each kid would need their own PIN and the parents would need the ability to add extra credit. Would this be possible? If so, hard?

I love that idea! I just fear my wife would implement it against me....

However, it's only a matter of time until kids hack the system. on the other hand - that way they learn something about computers, don't they?

Well, since my oldest is 6, I figure I have at least 2 years of use before she hacks it.

Personally I think that having something like that in MP would be cumbersome to use. I think your manual solution is best.

Also, I have a 6 year old son. My Direct TV receiver has a 3 digit password implemented that allows me to restrict chanels on a user by user basis. On the 'family' account that the kids use I have porn channels and a some movie channels locked out. A month or so ago I walked in on my son manually cycling through all the numeric combinations to unlock the channels (the movie ones, hopefully not the porn ). He had figured out that if he started at 001 and went to 999 that eventually he would find the password. So your 2 week assessment for your daughter is probably more accurate than the 2 year one .
