Alright well I am relatively new to MP (been using about 3 weeks) I am using version 1.02 I believe whichever was the newest non beta.

I am using Streamed MP skin with the Moving Pictures and MPTV-Series Plugins.

Yesterday it was running perfectly smooth I have had no problems til today.

I initially had 2 accounts 1 for admin so I could remote desktop and work on it from else where and not have people screw with the files. Then 1 account called HTPC that was just a basic account that launched MP when it started and hosted videos.

Today I was trying to switch over from 2 accounts to 1 account so that when I changed things it would update quicker. So I went into account options and deleted the HTPC account and renamed my Admin account to HTPC.

Now I dont know if that is what caused it BUT now whenever I log into my HTPC account it opens windows and then pops up a screen saying

Media Portal has stopped working
Microsoft is trying to find a solution blah blah progress bar.....

Then the progress bar goes away and it just stops at the desktop.

Did my changes mess something up so that it cannot find the files anymore? Is there a media portal magic fixer program that checks for stupid things that breaks it? Or do I need to format and reinstall?

Edit: Oh I am using 32bit Windows 7 Professional if this is needed.

I cant see why you'd need to re-format.

    1. create an account with the same name and priveledges as the one you deleted.

    2. revert the name of the account you changed the name of.

    3. fire up MP and see if it works

    4. if it doesnt work, check the log files to see what error its throwing up

    5. if you cant figure out what the logs mean, post them and someone will have a look at them for you.

you might want to consider using some disk imaging software to back up the machine once its working again. its a great way to avoid situations like this.

Paragon is free. Trueimage and Ghost are also popular but cost money.

Consider this a stop-gap until someone invents a "magic fixer program" :)

I'd really recommend taking an image before you do any mods as if it screws up you can just reimage and you are back to where you are.. Done this before and it's got me out of big dodo, and also not when I decided not to do it and it all went pear shaped. :s

I will try renaming the account back to the old one and see if that works. If it does though is there something I can do to make it work and allow me to change it?

I am considering formatting anyways just so I can split my system harddrive into 2 parts so my video/audio is more seperated from my system files.

And I will download Paragon as well. :)
