Hi guys

I have just got my HTPC built and am in the process of installing Media Portal.

Is there a list around that shows what extra programes/ codecs are needed.
I have a few problems when trying to get media portal going

Followed the instalation guide but seem to be missing stuff I have bought power dvd 8 and have a Hauupage dvb-s card which picks up all the freesat channels and plays on its own but dont get any picture or tv guide in media portal.

Also want to transfer all my dvds to the medai portal and can play them using a player (forget the name now as I am at work) but not in MP it will play some movie files but not HD ones

I am sure these are small problems but finding it hard to make head or tail of the settings

Sorry if I am being vague will post up file extentions I can play when at home but a list would be very helpful

Thanks

depending on the amount of raw power your htpc has, people might recommend diff setups, what I use, codecwise;
- Haali mediasplitter for Matroska based files
- FFDShow for all MPEG4 related de / encoding
- Quicktime alternative for mov files
- FLVSplitter (1.0.0.5) for streaming flash stuff
- MPV for MPEG2/1 content

Ok I followed this guide to the letter and all now works.
This is a fantastic guide and a must for anyone just getting into media Portal.

Just a quick one for you guys how do I change the My Videos to something like My Movies or DVD's in the skins or is it a set up in the media portal code.

My Videos is a bit outdated now and I dont even own any, any more :D

As far as I know, you can either call it "videos" ... or... "my videos" :)

There's a switch to change it in general settings, if you want to remove the 'my' from the front

uncheck: skin - use string prefixes

If you use Moving Pictures plugin - that comes with an option to call it whatever you like. "movies", "films", "flicks", "humphrey"...

If you use basichome (and other basicmenus like watchmenu) you can just edit the labels.
My Home is like etheesdad said only adjustable with removing the "my" prefix
